You were putting on your best dress.

It was the 40’s and your best friend had invited you to go dancing.

At a soldier’s bar of all places!

You were so excited.

You had this strange feeling that something good was going to happen.

You met your friend just outside your building.

She looped your arm through hers and you both began your walk.

You were nervous.

But nonetheless, you and your friend were chatting away.

You and your friend entered the bar, only to be met by smiling eyes.

She wandered off towards a soldier who had raised his glass to her.

You were now alone.

You went to the bar to get a glass of water.

A soldier came up next to you.

“Whatever the lady wants, it’s on me tonight,” he said.

You looked over at him and smiled.

“That’s quite alright, sir. You don’t have to do that,” you said.

He gave you a flirty smile in return.

“Oh, but I want to,” he said, “Now, does the beautiful girl next to me have a name?”

“Y/N,” you replied.

“Ah, Y/N,” he repeated, “I like it.”

You giggled.

“Thank you,” you replied, “But i don’t know your name, soldier.”

“James. But you can call me Bucky,” he said.

He winked at you.

You felt a surge of courage.

“Bucky. It’s cute,” you told him.

“You’re cute,” he responded.

“As are you,” you winked.

He chuckled.

“Would you like to dance?” he asked.

He offered his hand.

You nodded and took it.

He led you onto the dance floor.

He pulled you close and swayed with you to the music.

And that’s how you spent the night.

Even your friend had left you.

Eventually, you had to go home.

“Thanks for the night,” you said to Bucky.

“No, thank you,” he said.

You waved at him and walked out the door.

You made it half the block before you heard someone call your name behind you.

You turned to see Bucky jogging up to you.

“What’s wrong?” you asked.

“It’s late and you’re walking alone?” he asked.

You nodded.

“Well, that won’t do,” he said, shaking his head and holding out his arm, “Come on. I’ll walk you.”

You smiled and took his arm.

“Thank you,” you said.

He told you jokes and stories about him and his best friend, Steve.

You made it home quickly and safely.

Bucky stood with you outside.

“Will we be able to do this again sometime, my dancer girl?” he asked, cheesily.

“Definitely, my soldier boy,” you nodded.

He kissed your forehead and watched you enter the building.

Your soldier boy.
