It was later in the night at the end of the week, Miguel and I were once again cleaning. Miguel was washing some windows, I was taking a small break and writing out a form for my dad, since his handwriting was horrible

“Hey Sensei, is there any particular way you want me to wash these windows?”

“No I don’t give a shit. Whatever’s easiest” dad waved off, grabbing a beer from his mini fridge.

“Here” I stood up, turning back to my dad for a moment “Just do all the signatures dad” Then back to Miguel. I held my hand up to the glass, getting him to mirror me. I moved my arm in a circular motion

“Why like this?”

“It builds muscles in your arm if you move it the right way” I smiled “Also” I stepped back from the wall, moving my arm the same way “It’s a good way to block punches” I smirked

Miguel’s eyes widened

“Wait really?”

“Yeah, if you’re fighting a window” I chuckled

“Why don’t you just go clean the toilet, we’ll call it a night” my dad called over to him

“Okay...” Miguel sighed

“Do that one on your hands and knees” Dad smirked

“Any particular reason there pops?” I questioned

“I dunno… it’s funny” dad shrugged

“He’s a good kid dad” I rolled my eyes “He’s not your servant”

I heard the front door open, I stepped out of the office, along with my dad.

“Welcome to Cobra Kai-”

It was Mr. Larusso. What on earth was he doing here so late?

“Some things never change”  he started off

“Yeah, what are you talking about?” Dad asked

“I heard you beat up a bunch of teenagers in that parking lot out there”

He must be talking about the boys at the mini mart.

“Oh that, no. I didn’t beat up any teenagers” Dad stated, walking over to Mr. Larusso “I kicked the shit out of a bunch of assholes who deserved it”

“Wow” Mr. Larusso scoffed “Johnny Lawrence calling someone else and asshole, that’s rich man”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Uh- look… I’m not here to rehash the past. Just stay away from my daughters friends” Mr. Larusso said calmly

“Your daughter’s friends? Yeah that makes sense” Dad shook his head “Nice company she keeps”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“It means those friends of hers were wailing on a kid half their size. Maybe you don’t know your daughter as well as you think you do. Get your house in order Larusso”

“Okay dad that’s enough” I tried to stop him

“Who the hell you think you’re talking to?” Mr. Larusso stepped closer to us

“Bathroom’s clean!” Miguel called out.

Oh this is not the time. He walked out, so oblivious.

“Yeah- is there anything else you need me to do?”

I walked over to him quickly, trying to shut him up. Dad and Mr. Larusso were staring dead into each other's souls. This was not gonna end well.

“Oh- I’m sorry Sensei, I-”

“El shut up” I gritted through my teeth

“Sensei?” Mr. Larusso reiterated “Really? Oh my god kid, I don’t know what he’s told you, but you shouldn’t believe a word this guy says, or you’re gonna end up exactly like him”

“Mr. Larusso please go” I sighed

“You and I...” he ignored me “This… We aren’t done” he proclaimed

“Whoa- hold on-” I stormed forwards, dad stuck an arm out to stop me, keep me behind him

“I’m right here man” Dad called

Mr. Larusso looked back, he wanted to fight, I could see it. He waved my dad off, and left. I was in shock, I’ve never seen Mr. Larusso so… mean,

“I’m sorry if I interrupted anything Sensei” Miguel apologized “Should I do 20 push ups on my knuckles?”

I love Miguel, I do. He’s a sweet boy, an amazing friend, very easy to get along with… but holy shit this kid is one of the biggest self pushovers I know.

“Right, like you could” my dad scoffed

“Dad-... What just happened?” I questioned

“Seems as though we’ve erupted an old rivalry” my dad sighed “That- that wasn’t my fault was it?”

“I- well partially, you need two people to have a fight. But- I’ve never seen Mr. Larusso so… jabby. I mean- you did take a stab at his daughter. But he was so quick to become irrational”

“You’re a smart kid Harley” My dad nodded, patting my back

I was taken back a bit. That was the first time in… since I can remember that my dad actually complimented me. Like- genuinely said something encouraging. It didn’t last long, he told me and Miguel to go home, and went back into his office right away, but something was better than nothing
