Still Dewayne's Pov

Her hazel eyes bore into when she stared at me... making a sleuth of impure thoughts fill my mind. I honestly can't make sense of my reaction to her or why I am making such a big deal out. It was frustrating me that I was acting just like those horny ass underclassmen.

And it couldn't be from her attire. The shirt was no different from shit I seen Tracey in. She owned so many crop tops, I lost count. Not to mention she looked good as hell in them.

So why couldn't I stop my eyes from raking Zaria's frame?

She looks better, that's why you're staring. A voice in my head confirmed.

I almost began comparing the two, but I stopped myself. Me and Zaria haven't even been officially acquainted long, and me looking at her like this isn't right.

"Okay, y'all are scaring me! Why are y'all staring at me so hard? Is there something wrong? Is there something on my face? Anything hanging out? A Stain? Anything, please this a white outfit! Tell me before go to school looking like a fool!" She said in a nervous tone, frantically looking down at her attire, smoothing it out.

I glanced finally moved my eyes away from her body deciding to focus on my phone. Out of my peripheral, I saw Devon and Tre staring at me. As I glanced over at them, they began smirking at me.

Shit, I'm never going to hear the end of this.

The girls spoke first. Better them than me.

"Bitch I knew would look so fucking bomb in that outfit. Never question my taste again!" Stacey exclaimed proudly.

Candace nodded in agreeance with a kool-aid smile on her face. " I'm telling you friend, you look as fuck! Like we have take pictures today and post them, because you look that good!

"Pictures?!. " Zaria questioned.

"Yes ma'am, we gotta capture this moment! I believe this was definitely a cultural reset!" Candace said happily before typing away on her phone.

What the fuck was a cultural reset?

"I appreciate the compliments. I was beginning to think something was wrong. Today's already starting off weird. Usually when I get on the bus, people be ready to start talking about me and not even giving me a second glance. I'm not used to having all these silent eyes on me. Are y'all sure I look ok, I could change when we get to school." she said rambling.

"No need for all that. We woulda told you if there was something wrong. Just chill." Tre replied calming tone.

"Only reason why the bus feel silent is because you had everyone shook! I think the world might have even stopped for a few seconds. It's always a major event when a baddie steps out." Candy said smiling.

"Period." Stacey agreed cheesing.

Zaria just laughed and shrugged nonchalantly. "Girl please y'all acting like I'm a celebrity or something. It's not that big of deal."

I inwardly sighed.

I didn't like when she would try to downplay herself like that. She was beautiful, and shouldn't think any less of herself. I really hope that in time her self-esteem will improve.

While thinking of ways to help boost her confidence, I remembered needing to address why she has been avoiding me.

I focused my attention back on her willing myself to only keep my eyes on her face, and saw that was already staring at me.

A small smile stretched across my face and it deepened when she looked away blushing.

Before I got distracted again, I decided to address the elephant in the room. "Why have you been ignoring me?"

She looked at me with widened eyes before casting them back down into her lap. I need some answers. I hated when she looked down, she had no reason to be afraid of me. Softly, I lifted up her chin with my finger so that she could look at me. I needed to know if I did something wrong.

It took her a moment to meet my eyes, but once she did, she spoke in a voice so quiet that I had to strain my ears to hear her. "It's best that so keep my distance. I'm not trying to disrespect anyone or cause drama. Besides, you don't have any business hanging out with someone like me." She removed my hand from her face abruptly.

"Zaria, you and I being friends isn't a problem for me. I don't care about that popularity bullshit at school or the drama they create. Their assumptions about my business, don't apply to me. Matter of fact Dev, Tre.." I called out to them.

They were engulfed in conversation with Stacey and Candace. But once they heard me call them they looked directly at me. "Wassup?" Dev asked.

Z was trying to reconcile to the other edge of the seat.

"She thinks she isn't good enough to be friends with us." I said.

Dev and Tre had the same look I had . "Says who?You bleed just like us. Man, this is high school, this popularity shit really don't matter outside of it. If we cool, it don't matter." Dev said bluntly.

I priced myself on being a person who didn't popularity shit go to my head. And because of that I surrounded myself with people who had the same idea.

Tre shot me a look, like he knows something. I'll get at him later. "I know people may find it strange, but some who are popular don't let it define them. We are still regular ass people. If we all decide to kick it as friends it's our decision and our business. Don't let anyone tell who you can and can't chill with. It isn't there place to dictate what you do." Tre reasoned. " If you don't want to be friends that you're choice. So I'm going to ask; do you want?" He asked.

"PLEASE SAY YES!" Dev shouted.

I could tell she was deep in thought but she cracked a small smile, "Sure." she said.

YESSS!

"About time." I said smiling.

I was glad to have that resolved. But I couldn't help but wonder what prompted her sudden distance. I know she's been going back in forth with it, but just when she seemed to get comfortable she suddenly just backed away. It was almost like someone had put that idea in her head. But if that was the case, I couldn't help but wonder who.
