I stared at the phone, feeling my heart ache. I knew that Sam and Colby were best friends but he promised me that he wasn't going to put us in danger.

Talking to Sam, who was in charge of one of the most powerful gangs in California, was like putting a giant target on all of our backs.

"Alright, Juniper is- what are you doing?" Colby asked as I turned and held up his phone.

"You have five seconds to explain." I said quietly as he scrunched his brow. "You went through my phone?" Colby asked as I clenched my jaw.

"Explain yourself." I said, my eyes watering. "Alright! I've been talking to Sam. Are you happy?" He asked as I threw his phone down.

"Why would I be happy?!" I yelled as his face hardened. "You went behind my back and put us all in danger!" I said and took a step closer to him.

I didn't care that I was in pain and that I could feel the anger boiling behind Colby's eyes.

He went behind my back, and I wasn't okay with that.

"Talking to Sam isn't going to put us in danger, Julia. You're being dramatic." He said as I groaned. "Are you KIDDING me, Colby?!" I yelled as he covered my mouth.

"Stop yelling, Julia." He said as I shook my head, smacking his hand away from me.

"Don't fucking touch me." I seethed as he groaned. "I've been struggling, so I called him one day. You shouldn't have expected me to leave everyone behind." He said as anger boiled in my chest.

"It was your idea!! I didn't MAKE you do anything!" I yelled, throwing my crutches down in a rage.

"Julia, please just-" Colby started as a soft knock sounded on the door. I gritted my teeth as Colby went to answer it.

"Did we wake you?" Colby asked as Juniper stood in the doorway with a frown on her face. "Why are you yelling?" She asked as I picked up my crutches.

"I'm sorry, love. Let's get you to bed." I said and slowly made my way over to her.

"I can take her, Jules." Colby said as I shook my head. "You've done enough." I said to him then slowly went down the hallway.

"Sissy, is Colby gonna leave us?" Juniper asked as I brought her back to bed.

"I don't know." I said quietly, not wanting to think this would escalate that far.

I was angry with Colby though.

I trusted him with my life and he went behind my back.

Who knew what else he could be hiding from me.

"I don't want him to leave. You have to stop yelling at him." Juniper said as she crawled into bed.

"Oh do I?" I asked as she nodded. "He makes you happy, not sad." She said as I sat on her bed, brushing her hair back.

"The thing is, sweetie...he makes me both. It's complicated." I said with a sigh. "I don't like hearing you yell." Juniper said as I nodded.

"I know, I'm sorry. I won't yell anymore." I said then leaned down and kissed her head. "Get some sleep, love." I said then tucked her in.

"Goodnight, sissy. Love you." She said and grabbed her teddy bear.

"Love you more." I said then went to leave the room.

When I got back to the bedroom, Colby was sitting on the bed with his head in his hands.

"I think im going to sleep on the couch." I said quietly. "Don't do that, Julia." Colby said and looked up at me.
