Colby's POV
"Fucking hell." I grumbled as I hung up the phone with Jeremy. I couldn't shake the anxiety that was clenching my heart.
I knew Julia was doing this because she felt like she had to but she didn't understand the severity of the situation.
She didn't understand this was a death wish.
"No info?" Sam asked as I shook my head. "No, we just need to go to Seattle. This can't wait anymore." I said and stood up.
"Wait. You've gotta tell the kids.." Sam said as I sighed. "Fuck me." I grumbled then stormed out of the room.
I was stressed, knowing I would be leaving them.
I know Julia wanted me to take care of them and I would make sure they were taken care of but I wasn't going to sit here and wait to find out she was killed.
I needed to find her and keep her safe.
When I got to the kids' room, I took a deep breath and walked in. "Colby, where is Julia?" Jenna asked as soon as I walked in.
"She's doing something very stupid so I need to go find her." I said and went towards my bag. "Is she gonna die?" Little Sam asked as I shook my head.
"I can't say. I don't know. I just need you guys to listen to Nate. He's going to be taking care of you guys while Julia and I are away." I said and started throwing my stuff together.
"Colby.." Carter said gently causing me to look up at him. He looked at me for a second before nudging his head towards Juniper.
She was looking at me with a fearful look on her face and tears in her eyes.
I knew I was being a lot less gentle than I usually was around her but I wasn't expecting her to look so terrified of me.
"It's okay, kid. I'm just going fast so I can get to sissy." I said and took a step towards her. I felt my heart shift as she flinched away from me.
"Best friend." I said and crouched to be her level. "Don't scare me." She said quietly as I nodded. "I'm not trying to. Come here." I said and held my hands out.
Juniper stared at me for a minute before she finally walked closer to me.
"I don't know how long I'm gonna be gone but I'm gonna be back with sissy, okay?" I asked and gave her a hug.
"She's gonna die." She said as I shook my head. "I'm not gonna let her." I said then kissed her head before pulling away.
"The longer I'm here though the worse off she could be so I have to go super fast." I said and looked at all of the kids.
"What did she do?" Jenna asked as I shook my head. "I'll tell you later. All I can say is that Nate is going to be watching you guys and you need to stay in this room at all times." I said then went to calmly go pack.
The kids were silent as I packed up my stuff. I knew they were scared but there was genuinely nothing I could do or say to make that better.
All I could do was make sure Julia made it back home safe.
"Okay, guys. You are so strong and I appreciate you so much. I'll try to keep you all updated as much as I can, but I need you to trust me." I said and put my bag over my shoulder.
"Make sure she doesn't die.." Little Sam said as I nodded. "I'm really gonna try." I said then sighed.
"I love you guys. Please just listen to Nate." I said as they all nodded. "We love you too, Colby." Jenna said as I turned to leave the room.
