Colby's POV

"What the fuck do you mean?" I asked, pacing the room. "Look for yourself." Corey said as he handed me a piece of paper.

I've seen a lot of ransom notes in my days, but never had a seen anything like this.

Usually ransom notes were much more informal, and actually had a little bit of information.

This piece of paper only had two words sprawled on it, right in the middle of the page.

Fourteen days

"Now what the fuck does that mean?" I grumbled. "It could mean a lot of things." Nate said as I nodded.

"So we have to find him before we find out what option it is." I said and put the note down.  "Exactly." Corey said as I scrubbed my face with my hands.

"Let me see that again." I said and reached for the invitation to the banquet they went to.

"Here." Jake said and handed it to me. I sighed then looked at the invitation. It was pretty plain, not having much information at all.

"We need to go here." I said and pointed to the address. "Do you really think that's a good idea? They wouldn't be so stupid to keep Sam there." Corey said as I nodded.

"Yeah. It's not why we have to go." I said blandly. "Even if we can find any sort of evidence we'll be better off. We can't hide from them." I said then stood up.

"Are we going now?" Corey asked as I nodded. "Nate and I will go scope out the house. You guys will be backup." I explained the looked at them with a deadpan expression.

"That work?" I asked blandly. "Yeah, I don't think we have a choice." Jake said as I nodded. "Correct." I said then walked out of the room.

I was sick of sitting around and doing nothing. There wasn't anything we could do for Sam if we sat here and hid.

Even though I've done stakeouts before this one made me nervous.

It's been so long since I've actually be in any sort of action that I didn't know how well I would handle it.

"You seem nervous." Nate said as we got to the car. "I am." I said simply, getting in the driver's seat.

"Yeah, it's gotta be a little nerve wracking to get back into it." He said as I nodded and put the address in.

"I have a lot more to lose than I ever had before." I said then started driving.

"So you really like living a normal life?" He asked as I sighed.

"It's complicated. I miss the thrill and danger, but I love the safety for Julia. After the brothel thing I've felt sick to my stomach about involving her at all." I explained and drove down the road.

"Yeah, that was arguably the worst situation we've ever had." He said as I nodded.

It was true, even considering what was happening. Sam could easily fend for himself and keep himself alive.

There was a reason they wanted to hold him hostage so killing him was probably not on the table.

With Julia's situation, her father wanted to hurt her and he wanted to kill me. He pushed the limit and did everything to hurt her, since the end goal was to kill me.

I don't think the end goal here was to kill Sam or anyone, it was to get power.

At this point I kinda wished we would all get out of this world and live normal lives, but that was way easier said than done.

Not everyone was crazy enough to go through with that idea.

When we got to the house I parked across the street so we could scope out the situation. It was a pretty normal looking house, well, as far as mansions go.
