~Preston's POV~

They sold me so they wouldn't go bankrupt. The people I knew weren't my parents but kept that fantasy alive anyway. They hurt me, beat me, did... things to me, but they were the only people I knew. After my few years with them, they sold me. They said that they needed funding. That the project was failing anyway. They sold me.

I curl up in the corner of the box I'm in and let the tears fall freely down my face. The buyers didn't look nice. They all had deep-seated hatred etched into their faces. Their fingers clenched around everything dangerously. That had seen hell and wanted everyone to know it's pain.

The vehicle lurches violently and I'm slammed against the other side of the box. Angry shouts and swearing rise and we stop. Guns go off and I curl up even more. Scared for what could happen to me. The box is open and a head pops over the ledge. A hand descends and I flinch away from it.

"Hey, little guy. It's okay. I'm gonna get you out of here."

I look up to the face. His eyes and hair are both dark. I slowly stand up and fall back as there is another person besides the man. The first one again reaches for me and I allow them to pull me out.

"My name is Vik! This is Lachlan. We are part of the FNS!"

I say nothing. I simply stare them down, waiting for the inevitable hits. They both just sigh and 'Lachlan' pick me up and starts walking. Vik chatters beside me into a radio. Gunshots ring out again and both of them flinch. I'm put down.

"Stay here. We have to go help the others, but we will be back for you."

They both take off and I watch as they disappear around a corner. I finally take in my surroundings. It looks like we are in a city. Tall buildings tower over me, and the lights are bright. I look around and seeing the coast is clear, slink down an alleyway and climb up a fire escape. Just because I was isolated, doesn't mean I don't know what things are.

Just as I make it to the third level, I hear footsteps head my way.

"He was right here! He had brown ears, with a brown and slightly gold tail!"

"Vik, it's okay! We believe you. He may have wandered off. We did just rescue from those people."

"I shouldn't have left him. God, I'm an idiot!"

Someone moves away fro the group and sits under a lamppost. They drop their head down and from the looks of it, they are crying. Another person sits beside them and rubs their back.

"Okay, anyone have Simon's number? Vik is having a breakdown."

"Give him a break, he's been working three days straight."

"His day off was yesterday?"

"You honestly think he takes those?"

"Oh shut up and call lover boy."
