Yuna entered the pension, took off her shoes, and put them into the shoe shelf. Then she dragged a plastic bag along the passageway to the kitchen.

"Good day, Masuda-san. Do you have a little time?" the manager shouted from his office as he noticed her.

"Hello, Morino-san." The high-school girl stretched her head through the door frame. "Everything okay?"

The man folded his newspaper. "Yes. The transfer worked this time."

Smiling, the blue-haired nodded. "I'm glad."

"There's something else."

"Yes?" She looked at him questioningly.

"It's a bit unpleasant for me." Morino-san grabbed a ballpoint pen and rolled it between his fingers.

"What is it?"

He sighed. "It's about your sister."

Alarmed, the girl took a step forward. "What about her?!"

Soothingly, he raised his hands and waved with them in front of his face. "No, no. Nothing bad."

"Come on. Just say."

"Well ... actually, I'm only renting single rooms," the manager muttered.

Uncomprehendingly, Yuna glanced at him. "Um ..."

An embarrassed smile appeared on his face. "You share a room."

"Oh. Is that a problem?"

Morino-san pressed the button to extend the mine. "Well ... it's against the house rules. Guests may be accommodated for a maximum of three days."

The blue-haired snorted. "What do you suggest?"

"Well ... I'm willing to make an exception ..." His crooked, yellow teeth appeared. "Against a small, monthly fee."

The girl tilted her head. "How much?"

"Let's say ... fifty percent?"

For a moment, the high-school student did the math. "That's too much, don't you think? Except for electricity and water my sister needs nothing. It's not like she'll have her own room, does she?"

"True, let's say ... thirty percent."

"Twenty-five."

They gave each other a several-second look duel before the manager looked away. "You are a tough negotiating partner. You'll surely do well, once you're an adult."

"Do we have a deal? Twenty-five percent?"

His head wobbled as his teeth crunched. "Yes. Agreed."

"You'll get your money by the end of the week. Have a nice day, Morino-san." Yuna turned around.

"You too, Masuda-san."

The high-school student carried the shopping bag into the kitchen and deposited it on the dining table. A few empty snack bags were piling up.

"Ayumi is way too messy. Why can't she throw the garbage away immediately?" lamented the girl as she threw the bags into the trash can. She fished a glass bowl from the cupboard, carried it over to the table, took a bag of shrimp chips from her plastic bag, and poured the content into the bowl. Then she left the kitchen with the bowl in her hands to go to the living room. At the bottom of the stairs she could already hear the laughter of several female persons. Slowly, she climbed up from the entrance into the first floor. It was about time that she found out with what kind of people Yui surrounded herself.
