I watched him as the tears rolled in his eyes. He looks mad, but at the same time, he's heartbroken.
"She's mine!" He yelled. A few people from across the street ran in to the store. I saw one of them on the phone, hopefully calling the police. But pretty soon they might just need to call an ambulance as well because by the look of it, I can't really see this going down any other way than... boom.
"Daniel, just put the gun down." I said, slowly raising my hand. "No! She's coming with me and you're staying here!" He started yelling again.
"Brian..." I heard her voice quivering behind me. "Please don't." I whispered back to her, feeling even more pain in my heart thinking that she's actually wanting to go with him... just to save me. "Tahnée don't." I begged her, watching how she moved out from behind me. "I love you Craigen. Never doubt that okay." She cried softly, letting go of my hand as she slowly started to walk towards him.
"Tahnée!" I cried out her name, "No!" He yelled aggressively. I saw her flinching, so scared that he'll do something to her like he did before.
"Common babe." It send chills down my spine as he reached his hand out to her, but she didn't take it. She just walked up to him, looking back to me with fear and tears in her eyes, pouring out of her soul. "You took her from me." "She made that decision Daniel!" He stepped closer, but as he did, Tahnée kept on taking steps back. "No, no, no!" He yelled, "Fuck you man for taking what's not yours!" "He didn't." She stepped in with a loud yell.
Oh dear God please keep my girl safe.
"I fell inlove with him before he even had the chance to fall inlove with me, Daniel. You were my worst mistake yet I'll never regret you because you showed me exactly what I didn't want in a guy. And Brian..." she looked around to me, tears flowing down her cheeks. "I love him." She said right infront of him, looking me dead in the eyes.
I saw the dark look in his eyes how, indicating how angry he was to hear those words leaving her lips and it not be proclaimed towards him.
But me.Remember, Tahnée never proclaimed her love for him, there never was that kind of love from her side towards him. He always said it, but she never did. I was her first, and she was mine. My true love.
He was furious.
Like it all moved in slow motion I saw the furrowed and angry look returning to his face and he started screaming. Just screaming.
"Tahnée!" I yelled a warning as loud as I can. I dodged to the side to get out of range and fell to the ground, but never heard the shot until..."No!" She yelled.
It's a memory. Burned in to my brain.
A vision I won't ever forget."Tahnée!" I yelled out, pushing myself up from the ground before dashing over to her. Once again, it all moving in slow motion. The cold sweat breaking out on my skin and I didn't feel anything for a moment. Nothing.
There she was, falling to her knees as she held her hand over her abdomen. "Tahnée! No no no!" I panicked, giving pressure to the wound as her eyes weakened and her body came to a rest. She was as white as snow. A single tear falling down the side of her face as she looked up to the sky.
"Look what you did!" I cried out as I looked over my shoulder to Daniel, now suddenly having tears in his eyes and looking down to the gun in his hands with disbelief. The sound of the sirens coming from around the corner never bothered me. All I wanted was her to be okay. "Baby, please don't leave me." I cried out, picking up her weakened body and pulling her on to my lap. "Keep your eyes open, keep them on me darling." I sniffed, almost rocking back and forth as I don't know what to do. "Help!" I screamed out in pain.
The police surrounded Daniel, screaming at him to let his gun down but he just kept on staring at Tahnée. "I'm sorry." He said sadly, looking in to my eyes, raising the gun again. "Daniel don't!—"
I squinted my eyes shut as I looked away, only hearing his body collapsing behind me."Brian..." he weak voice came through. "I'm right here darling. I'm right here." I cried, wiping away the tear from the side of her face. "I'm s-scared." She started shaking, only making me cry more as she started crying too. "I love you." She said with a small smile, her eyes growing more shut with every passing second. "Don't say goodbye Tahnée, don't you dare say goodbye."
-
I hate to say that Tahnée died the few minutes we waisted on the ambulance, laying on the sidewalk of the flower shop in her own small pool of blood. Some soaking in to my pants, but I never let her go.
Once the ambulance and paramedics arrived it was like holding my breath for minutes and minutes more. Praying over and over again for them to just find something and tell me good news instead of bad.
"We've got a pulse!" I heard a yell, letting my breath out as I saw her body, weak and dead on the bed, lifted up in to the back of the ambulance. I hopped in with her, never letting go of her hand.
-
When we reached the hospital it was like I shut out all the sound around me, all the motions of everyone moving. I just stood there in the hallway, watching how they're pushing her body in to the emergency room. Gone.
I crashed. Down on my knees as I cried, feeling a relief that all of this is finally over but also feeling the strongest pain ever... losing the one I love. I know there'll come a time where I just shut down all my emotions. There won't be any more tears to cry, there won't be any sympathy or empathy. Just a skin and bones. Brian, without a heart, nor a soul.
-
My heart is shattered. It's been over an hour and there's still no update on Tahnée whatsoever. I've been pacing up and down the hallway all this time, waiting and waiting of when the door will finally open. But then also stressing on whether it's gonna be good or bad news. I can't sot down. Whenever I do my legs never stop shaking, my entire body is covered in pins and needles.
I'm afra that if I sit, I won't get back up."Brian Craigen?" I turned around, seeing the chief of surgery who took her in walking out of the door, holding her mask in her hand as she came closer. My insides were shaking. Her face looked sad.
Please, no. Don't let this be it. Don't take her away from me.
"Yes. How is she? Is she okay?" She didn't answer me. She just faintly smiled, directing me in to a room right beside us. "Please have a se-" "No." I started shaking, waiting in anticipation for what it may be that she'll tell me. "Tahnée she—" she paused, sitting down. "We managed to get the bullet safely out without hurting any other tissue around the wounded area. She lost a lot of blood, had major bleeding that spread around her abdominal area but we managed to drain it all and gave her a blood transplant to just regulate the pressure in her veins." She stopped talking.
My mind is going crazy. Thinking of everything, both bad and good. Did it work? Is she alive? Will she wake up at any second now and I'll get to see her?
"Is she awake?" She shook her head, looking down at her hands. "She's critical. We're keeping her monitored and under close eye but other than what we've already done... there's nothing more we can do to speed up the process of her healing, or consciousness."
For the first time... I sat down. My body went numb and all I felt was guilt, sadness and powerless. She gave me a rub on the back, leaving me with the words that they're doing they're best, and that was it.
She left.Tears pooled up in my eyes and everything was a blur. I just found the love of my life, the true meaning of my love and to whom I can proclaim anything to, my life, marriage, love... and just in a blink of an eye, she took my bullet... and I may be losing her forever because of it.
