I couldn't bring myself to face Natasha after that conversation, so I went to Wanda's room. Her room was very light and very clean. It was kind of divided into three sections, the bathroom, the bed area, and a sort of small living space. The bathroom was furthest from the door but the bed and living spaces were very open, separated by only glass-panelled double doors and glass windows. Her lights were off and I could see her form in the bed. In the living area, there was a basket seat hanging from the ceiling. Just large enough for me to curl up in, even at my current size, it was the perfect spot for a temporary den. Quietly, I grabbed the decorative blanket from the foot of her bed and the crocheted one resting on a chair. I lined the inside of the seat with the decorative one and wrapped the other one around me. I also made use to the pillow already in the hanging seat. Then, I spun the seat so it faced the wall and closed my eyes. Not to sleep, just to rest.
Loki's POV
I tried to sneak back into our room without the spy seeing me, but I found her waiting outside the door.
"What's up?" She had her arms crossed and was in a slightly aggressive stance. I opened my mouth to deny anything, "I know something's up. I know that because you failed to spot me earlier and if you'd known I was there, you would've wiped the tears off your face before showing it."
"I wasn't–"
"Bolshevik, Loki. I may not really care all that much for you, but I care a lot about Mira. She hasn't come back down yet, which means you've upset her. So, what's. Up."
"A matter that is deeply personal and private to me. Nothing to do with her."
"You may be the god of lies, but a five-year-old would be able to see that your last statement was false."
"She thinks I am grieving my mother, which I am."
"But that's not the entire story."
"No. And I will not share the rest."
"You don't share the rest and I go find her right now and tell her that you lied."
"Promise to keep this to yourself. Swear it." She rolled her eyes and I felt insulted at how nonchalant she was being.
"Whatever. I swear."
"I am concerned for her and our unborn child."
"She seems to think mostly everything is fine. Just the no movement thing is a bit odd."
"This entire pregnancy has been odd and it's been risky. Mortal bodies were not meant to carry the offspring of gods, or in my case, Jotuns. The longer nature of the gestation will put an immense strain on her and the birthing process will be nothing short of traumatic."
"If you're talking about size, there's always the C-section."
"But that's not as healthy for the mother, and Mira is already very self-conscious about herself as it is. There are no good options for it, and do not even get me started on whether or not some of her physical traits were passed on."
"Like what?"
"Her wings. We cannot know for certain until we get a scan done, and that's going to be difficult enough as it is, and if they were passed on, then it will make a natural birth that much more difficult!" She had no words to even attempt to console me, "And I don't want to share these concerns with her because she's already stressed out as it is and that's not good for her! The last thing she needs is to see me weak. No. She needs me to be strong for her."
"I cannot claim to know much about pregnancies, births, or genetics," She began carefully and quietly, "But I do know Mira. She's strong. Stronger than I think you give her credit for. Earth has some amazing doctors and technology, I'm sure Dr. Cho would be more than willing to help out, she's the one who reconstructed Mira's wings after Sokovia. Additionally, it sounds like a lot of these concerns are conditional, if her wings were passed on, and so forth. I understand that she needs you as a support system, but if you're not going to use her as yours, you will need to find one elsewhere. Nobody can truly go it alone forever. She doesn't need you pretending to be strong, she needs you to actually be strong." She paused to let her words sink in, and I found myself no longer able to meet her gaze, "If none of us are available, or you need support elsewhere, try looking online. You could probably find chat rooms to voice some of your concerns. Of course, you wouldn't be able to mention everything, but I could help you get set up, if that's something you may be interested in." I considered the information and suggestion for a moment.
