          𝐓𝐇𝐄 night was progressing hastily, taking a dramatic turn for Damon Salvatore as he moved at a fast pace throughout the Town Square, making his way through the stalls and pushing past the tons of people. He scanned the area around him, searching for Stefan; though his brother wasn't anywhere in sight.

The Salvatore had just encountered Anna, a friend of Jeremy's and a vampire who had a confusing association with the tomb vampires, despite not exactly being with them. She had told him about those very vampires planning an attack tonight against the founding families when the fireworks start, which meant he didn't have much time left.

A year ago, he didn't have anyone to care or worry for besides himself but all of that changed since he returned to Mystic Falls. He now has his brother back in his life and he had met Elena. Not to mention he had developed a complicated relationship with Ric.

So, he glimpsed around the area once again and eventually, he was finally able to spot him and Elena walking down an isolated street, a moderate distance away from the centre of the Town Square. There were no other people in sight as everyone was presumably gathered around the centre prepared for the fireworks and the Mayor's speech. Stefan and Elena were too headed in that direction only to be stopped as Damon walked up to them.

"What's going on?" Elena asked upon seeing the serious expression on his face which he very rarely showed.

"The tomb vampires are here and the founding families are the targets. Get her out of here. Now." Damon finished quickly before moving away from them only for Stefan to follow.

"Wait, where are you going?" Stefan asked as he pulled away from Elena momentarily to walk up to his brother and question him some more, his vague answer not satisfying the younger brother enough.

As he did, however, they all failed to notice that one of the tomb vampires was currently watching them all, having previously followed Damon after overhearing his conversation with Anna. He was intending to kill the three of them now to prevent any foils in their plans and with the brunette slightly isolated from the other two, he saw his first kill right in front of him and so approached her from behind, revealing his vampire face ⏤ seconds away from sinking his teeth into her neck.

"Elena!" Stefan called out, noticing the vampire's abrupt intentions. Though at that moment neither his nor Damon's brain worked fast enough upon seeing what was about to happen. Though before the vampire had the chance to bite down on Elena's neck, a snapping noise was heard before the vampire fell limp to the ground revealing Olivia standing behind him.

"Okay, is this just normal in Mystic Falls or is something going on?" She asked, looking from the vampire's limp body back to the other three.

Elena upon hearing Liv's voice turned around, her eyes pulling from the blonde and landing on the vampire who was lying motionless on the ground behind her. She immediately swallowed back her discomfort as her heart rate picked up upon making the revelation. She took several steps back being met with Stefan's comforting hold as the Salvatore shifted his gaze to Olivia who was still awaiting an answer.
