You sat up in bed and took some deep breaths, your body sticky with sweat as the nightmare replayed over and over again in your head. It felt so real, so real that you had to reassure yourself that it wasn't by reaching out and touching Ashton's arm to be sure that he was still there, that he was okay. He shifted around in his sleep when your fingers ran across his arm and you instantly pulled your hand back, not wanting to wake him up after such a long and exhausting week.

You laid back down and rolled over on your side with your back towards Ashton. You hoped that you could fall back asleep if you just stayed still but there was no use in trying. The nightmare had left it's mark on you and the more you went over it, the bigger the lump in your throat got. It wasn't long before you started to sob, the nightmare worse than any other one you've ever had before. You jumped when an arm wrapped itself across your stomach. You knew Ashton was awake now so you tried to hold back your tears, biting your lip as hard as you could without making it bleed, but you couldn't for long. You started to cry once more and Ashton moved closer to you, his chest pressed against your back as he buried his face into your neck. You could feel his warm breath on your skin and it made you feel a little more at ease. "What happened?" He whsipered against your neck and you simply shook your head. You didn't want to tell him or make him worry about you. After all, he's spent the entire week in the studio with the guys, the last thing you wanted was to deprive him of some much needed sleep. "Nothing. I'm okay." You tried to tell him without your voice cracking, without crying even more but he was just so sweet as his hand ran across your stomach and he kept you close to him. "No you're not. What's going on y/n? Did you have a nightmare?" You didn't trust your voice so you just nodded your head.

You felt him sigh against your neck before he told you to roll over on your other side. You didn't hesistate to do so. He pulled you closer to him, your chest touching his before he pressed his forehead on yours, closing his tired eyes before opening them and looking straight into yours. "Do you wanna talk about it? It might make you feel a little better." You shook your head and sighed, burying your face in the crook of his neck and inhaling the smell of his aftershave. You really didn't wanna talk about it but you needed him to keep talking, to reassure you that he was still there. "Promise me something?" He ran his hand up and down your back and stayed quiet for a few seconds before he spoke. "Anything babe." You swallowed thickly before you pulled away from him and looked at him, memorizing every feature that he had across his face. "Promise me you'll never leave?" He furrowed his eyebrows before bringing a hand up to your face, stroking your cheekbones softly with his fingers. "Y/n, whatever happened in your nightmare is never actually going to happen, okay? I love you a lot and I wouln't dream of ever leaving you." You leaned into his hand and closed your eyes, wondering what you did so right to deserve him. You moved your head to his chest and rested your ear over his heart, listening to every beat as his fingers ran up and down your sides. "You don't ever have to worry about me leaving. I'm always gonna be here for you, you're stuck with me forever." You couldn't help but laugh, something he always made you do no matter how bad things might be. "promise?" He rested his chin on your head before gently pulling your head back and kissing your forehead. "I promise."

You rested your head on his shoulder and let the sound of his heartbeat lull you back to sleep. Even when you felt at your worst, he was always there to make you feel better.
