Zhi An climbed up the stairs with a pair of vigilant eyes. His left hand firmly gripped the hilt of his longsword, ready to unsheathe it when an enemy approached.

However, strangely, even when he climbed up to the third floor, he hadn't encountered any ambush nor were there any low ranked zombies in the building.

Is this the Zombie King's peculiarities? Zhi An silently thought in his mind.

When he arrived at the third floor, a long hallway stretched ahead in front of him. The white walls that were once painted were now filled with cracks, only cream flakes that were threatening to fall remained. The floor was made out of grey wooden panels with rusty nails that could barely support it. The ceilings that were once white were now filled with mold, dust and cobwebs were found on each corner of it.

This building must have once been a popular establishment as he could see countless framed photos hung on the wall. The people inside the picture were full of liveliness and joy, all smiling towards the camera with a pair of eyes devoid of sorrow.

Zhi An saw the date on one of the pictures.

12 March 2018.

It was a life before the apocalypse.

This inn must've closed down during the apocalypse. The owners had probably abandoned their business and went to look for refuge in this chaotic situation. Zhi An thought.

His gaze was directed back towards the long hallway. Among the doors that existed, there was one that extremely stood out. Streaks of light escaped from the crevices of the door.

He's inside. The young man's gaze narrowed.

As Zhi An approached the door, his footsteps quietened. The hand that was holding the hilt of his longsword also tightened.

As he pushed the door open...

Creeaakk.

The sudden sound caused him to be frozen in his tracks, his body still.

Zhi An didn't even realize that he was holding his breath. As he watched the door eased open, a dilapidated room panned into his view.

Huh?

A frown appeared on Zhi An's face.

Where is he?

In front of him was another empty room. The presence of a zombie king that he expected to see was nowhere to be seen.

Why is it empty?

Did my mission target leave already?

Am I late?

Countless questions passed by his mind. But in the end, only a sigh escaped his lips.

Fuck. I missed him. Zhi An thought, his hands that were firmly holding the sheath of his blade loosened as tension disappeared. It will be hard to track him down, but it's not entirely impossible if I follow the original plot.

The young man stepped into the room with light steps, moving towards the cabinet by the bed.

Well, let's just see if there's anything worth noting. Zhi An calmly said to himself as he opened each cabinet one by one.

His mind was extremely preoccupied with the task at hand that he did not notice a shadow quietly approaching him from behind.

With light steps to avoid alarming the human, Chen Hua's gaze narrowed. His sharp nails that were previously retracted to avoid suspicion were now elongated. Its black plate curved at the tip, dripping with poisonous virus that was capable of turning any human into a zombie instantly.
