"Can you believe it? He wants to talk to me!"

"Of course he does," Lana answers her human side.

"You think... You think he is coming around?"

"My answer varies between maybe, probably, and hopefully in a rather quick succession, without stopping on either choice."

"I just wish..."

"Jena?"

"... that he would agree to..."

"JENA!"

"What?"

"His scent."

"Yes, I know, I'm following it. It's the same raging storm in a pine forest fresh scent that I love so much."

"Focus and... Oh, nevermind! The scent is fading."

"WHAT? Wait, you're right! But that means..."

"He is not waiting for us so we can talk, but running away."

"No! That can't be!" Jena says as she starts running, slowly at first then faster and faster.

"Lana! The scent! The scent is not getting any stronger, in fact, it feels like..."

"He is getting further away."

Not sure what to do except keep going, she shifts, letting Lana take over the running since the wolf form is much swifter than her own two-legged one.

"Conall, when did Al'Aeen said he wanted to talk to me?"

"Jena? Let me think. Well, he didn't speak those exact words per say, he just looked like he wanted to speak to you."

"What? How the hell would you even know that if he didn't say it?"

"Because he looked like a man on a mission and pissed off as hell? And honestly my dear niece, I don't know anybody else that can piss him off as much as you can."

"That's not a compliment!"

"Oh, but it is!"

"I'll call you an idiot later, just... Just tell me when you last saw him!"

"About an hour and a half ago."

"WHY didn't you tell me earlier? For fcuk's sake!"

"How would I know you wanted to talk to him? I just assumed you were going to bump into each other sooner or later."

"Get some warriors, a stretcher, and Hannah and follow my scent."

"Oh, are you on a warpath? Against your mate?"

"He is my pack member. Leaving the camp on his own means he is putting himself in danger and he is my responsibility as an Alpha. So I'm going to get him to come back even if I have to beat submission into him. I did not give him permission to leave. What about E?"

"What about her?"

"Well, is she with Uma or..."

"He took her with him, I assume. Uma says she was already gone this morning, and so was he."

"Fine, we'll talk later, just do what I asked, please."

"OK."

Running with all her might, Jena is gaining on her mate.

"Why is this taking so long? And why can't I smell E with Al'Aeen if she is not back at camp?"

"Maybe she is, they just haven't actually looked for his daughter?"

"Can't we go any faster, Lana?"

"We are an Alpha wolf, not a cheetah. We are gaining on him, albeit slowly."

"How much longer until we catch him?"

"A couple of hours I think. The tracks switched from human to that animal form of his... th bear as he called it; had very long, muscly legs. He may not be very good at turning, but he can sure run the straight line with them."

"So I catch him, then what? What am I supposed to do if he really wants to leave?"

"Without the child? I doubt it."

"True but..."

"One at a time, Jena. Let's find him first."
