"Wait. I'm confused now."

"I'll try teaching it to someone. If it works, you can take it to the Alphas."

"OK then. Teach me!"

"No."

"What do you mean no? You just said..."

"Someone. Not you. At least not yet."

"Why?"

"I can't."

"You'll have to do better than that."

"Can't you just accept my answer?"

"No. Because it feels like you don't trust me or that you don't think I can do it or that..."

"Because I don't think I can take the look you'll give me if you do your best and it doesn't work. Cause I'm pretty sure you are going to try and take the blame for it just to spare my feelings. Because your presence alone is distracting me from focusing, from thinking straight. It makes me worried about what you might say or think or how what I do would make you feel and... See what I mean? Distracting."

"I see. So then, who should it be? Conall?"

"I actually think someone younger might work better. Someone not so set in his or her ways. Someone with a more flexible mind."

"It's obvious you already gave this some thought. Who is it?"

"Vi."

"Why her?"

"She trusts me. She's young enough. And I think Conall hasn't told her I'm actually from another world."

"And you think it will work better with her?"

"Yes. An impressionable mind would be most suitable for this."

"And the others then? There aren't many to fit that description, you know."

"If it works for her, a normal werewolf and not just the strange huge guy that turns into an unknown animal, the others will be more likely to accept it and do it themselves."

"Fine. What do you need?"

"Time. A bit of isolation. Like we have now. A little away from the main camp."

"How much time?"

"I can't really say?! Sorry, I'm just not sure."

"I'll give you a week. On one condition though."

"Am I going to like it?"

"I'm not sure. But you need to accept it."

"OK, what is it?"

"At night, both Vi and you have to sleep with your mates."

"Excuse me?"

"You have two werewolves having their mates spending an unnatural amount of time with each other. They will be worried and they will need reassurances. And I think you know that."

"But she and I are just like family!"

"Yet, not quite."

"And by sleep you mean..."

"Just that. Body proximity should be enough to put our inner beasts at ease."

"I see. So kind of like doing emotional healing?"

"If that works for you, yes."

"OK."

"Really? I mean good! I'll talk to Vi and the Alphas. You can start tomorrow morning."

"That's settled then. I think I'm going to go check on E. Sometimes she completely slips out of my mind. Don't know what's wrong with me."

"Come back with your tail between your legs? Any new bruises? Or is it too soon? Or maybe it was the other kind of fighting, eh?"

"Sorin, you are nastier than an impotent warhog in heat!"

"That doesn't even make sense!"

"How about you two calm the fcuk down?! We are in the middle of a war if you don't remember!" Aaron says exasperatedly.

"Indeed. That's why we should take a break," Jena answers.

"Break, what break? You can't take a break during a war!" Sorin argues.

"Our hand is forced to go out of the canyon in a single direction. They can't come down the walls and they blocked the way we came in," Aaron recalls.

"True. But everyone is tired. And we have supplies to last us for about three weeks. We should just block the only way in with our own soldiers and rotate shifts, keep our people rested and face fewer enemies at a time if an attack comes," Jena suggests.

"How does that help? Our forces are obviously equal to theirs!"

"I have a plan against that which requires this break and it will boost everyone's morale to sleep in relative safety for a period of time."

"How much time do you need?"

"Two weeks for the first phase of the plan. After that, we will know for sure if it works and we can plan the details."

"Two weeks just to know if it works? That's insane! What are the odds of this plan of yours even succeeding?"

"I'd say about fifty-fifty."

"Then you only need fifty percent of the time for it, don't you? I'll agree with one week. Nothing more."

"I will also agree with Sorin on this time period. We need the remaining two weeks in case whatever it is you are doing doesn't work," Aaron agrees with Sorin.

"I guess I'll have to settle for one week then. Both of you feel free to come up with alternatives if you can think of any and know that I appreciate your trust in me."

"You were right about the Master's menace after all. This truly is an enemy to all were-races."
