"Sand?"

"Everywhere."

"Water?"

"Precious."

"Hog?"

"Danger."

"Wolves?"

"Friends."

"Traitor?"

"Dead."

"Alpha?"

"Strong."

"Exotic beauty?"

"Jena."

"Sleep with?"

"Can't! Wait a minute! You did that on purpose!"

E smiles, but he obviously can't see it.

"Do you like her?"

"Well, that's not the issue here."

"You like her or not? No lies!"

"Yes. But I'm not sure..."

"You are attracted to her."

"Wasn't that supposed to be a question?"

"How astute!"

"It's probably the bite though and I would never..."

"Didn't ask. But why wouldn't you consider her an option?"

"Well, I'm married to your mother."

"And if you weren't?"

"But I am."

"But if you weren't?"

"Can we change the subject?"

"No."

"Why?"

"You run too much. And you aren't even using your feet."

"That's cryptic."

"For now. So?"

"OK, so I would look at her but would never dare to assume that..."

"Why?"

"Have you seen how good she looks? I mean those green eyes, that sandy blonde that sometimes seems to lean towards brown, skin tone that seems to say I've just had a tan... Pretty sure that's her natural color. She really is close to a cliché model in most aspects..."

"Not skinny."

"No. Thank goodness not skinny."

"I thought you didn't care since she is such a cliché beauty."

"Um-yeah, but if I did, I'd be really happy she's not a stick figure."

"Yet she already said she is your mate. That's what you'd call a home run. The books say she already likes you if you are mates."

"Well, I don't believe in that kind of stuff! I can't accept something simply decides our fate and who we should be with."

"But you like her."

"I mean she looks good and everything and she's probably a nice person too. Strong and takes care of her people and..."

"I get it, you really like her."

"Fine, I do! But..."

"I've heard but so many times, the place is beginning to stink, and we are outside!"

"Where the hell did you get that kind of humor?"

"You, obviously."

"I don't make those kinds of remarks!"

"You do. When you are happy and relaxed."

"I never knew you've been watching me so closely before."

"I know everything about you."

"Putting that scary thought away for later, why are we talking about Jena?"

"She's your mate."

"But I'm married."

"You keep stinking. I mean saying."

"You didn't reject her."

"I'm not stupid."

"Or you were scared."

"Probably both. Why?"

"Why didn't you? Scared of what?"

"Of never finding a way back to your mother."

"Are you sure that's where you should be?"

"Don't you want to get back to her?"

"Deflecting with another question not allowed."

"Yes, I'm sure. I mean it is what is right, isn't? Even if..."

"You don't want to."

"I never said that! I have to take you back to your mother."

"It's not fair to keep Jena as a backup plan."

"I can't be in a relationship with her wholeheartedly right now. And she knows about that. I told her as much."

"What if you can't go back? Would that make you happy?"

"Yes. I mean no. Maybe? I don't know. I wish things were simple."

"Simple is boring."

"I guess."

"And you wish Jena could be yours, consequences be damned!"

"Yes. Wait! No! STOP DOING THAT!"

"If this was a trial, you'd have been declared guilty by now."

"Shut up!"

"Did you two enjoy bonding time together? Guess I should lower my voice since she's asleep." Uma asks as she approaches.

"But we were just talking."

"The drool on your shoulder says otherwise, Al'Aeen. Seems she trusts you enough to sleep up there, though that's not really something curious. Why don't you let me have her and you go talk to Conall? He was looking for you."

"All right. Here!"

A wave of commotion sweeps over everything, and warriors can be seen running through the convoy, all in the same directions, while some of the more senior wolves begin directing everyone.

"Children, elderly and non-combatants pick up the pace and start moving to the head of the convoy column, warriors head to the central part for your assignments," a loud, commanding voice says from somewhere.

"Conall? What's going on?"

"Warhogs, what else?"

"But I thought we had a good lead on them."

"You and me both, boy. Secure your daughter and her caretaker and head to the middle area. MOVE ALONG, PEOPLE! You heard me, MOVE!"
