8. Chances

We get home at 5pm and put our leftovers in the fridge. "Babe they are expecting us now." Anna stops me as I am about to head upstairs. "Can you let a girl pee?" I ask her sarcastically. "Acess granted." She says in a robot voice. She is waiting by the door for me. "Ok, so the mother her name is Joanne, she is a single mom to four. I hope I get this right: The oldest are twins, Lilia and Lachlan who I think are 15, Gemma is 11 and the 7year-old is Teddy." Anna informs me as we cross the road, to the white house with a red door. After I ring the doorbell, we hear thudding downstairs and racing to open the door. A small boy, who I assume is Teddy, opens it to us. "Hi." Is all he says, "Hey!" I smile back. Coming up behind him must be Lachlan. Oh my God is so Fucking hot. "Hey." He smiles at me. "Hi." I blush at him. Then, it must be Lilia comes down the stairs. "Hey Anna!" She says cheerfully. "You must be Everleigh." She looks at me. "Yeah," I say, still looking at Lachlan. "You can come in." Lilia waves us in. We follow them to the kitchen where it must be Gemma, is baking. Joanne, the mom is wiping off her hands. "Hello, Anna, nice to see you." Joanne hugs her. "This must be your dear Everleigh. You look very similar." She smiles at me. "It is crazy how much we have heard that in the past week." I laugh. "Kids, why don't you take Everleigh downstairs, play a game or something," Joanne suggests. "Lilia takes my hand and we go back down the hall and down some stairs to an open floor basement. "I love your eyes, Everleigh they are so pretty. Don't you think, Lachie?" She turns to look at him. "Stunning." He smiles. "Thanks. Your guys' eyes are pretty too, I love light blue eyes." I compliment back. "It runs in our family." Lilia sits back on the couch. "Do you guys go to school?" I ask them. "Well, Lachie and I do, the little ones don't." I can tell Lilia is optimistic. "I am going to start homeschool," I tell them. "We could do it together," Lachlan suggests. "That would be great," I reply, tucking my hair behind my ear. "Whats your full name?" He asks. "Lachie, why would you ask that?" Lilia rolls her eyes. "Mom said they were changing her name or something before they came." He snaps at her. "Yeah, we just did. It's Everleigh Claire Noelle Kendrick now. You can just call me Ev, everyone does." I smile, that's the first time I have said my full name out loud. "That is really pretty." Lilia beams. "I hate mine, Its just Lilia Beatrix Davies. His is Lachlan Brooks Davies." She looks over at him. "You talk a lot, don't you?" I ask her, not really needing an answer. "This is only the tip of the iceberg." Lachlan sighs. On one of the walls, there are sport balls lines up. "Lachlan, do you play all those sports?" I nod my head in the direction of the balls. "No, I collect them, they are all signed, and you can just call me Lachie." He smiles. "We should watch a movie," Lilia suggests. "I'm down." I agree with her. "Lachie, you choose with Ev, I'll make popcorn." She exits up the stairs. "What do you want to watch?" He asks me, turning on the TV. "Um," I hesitate. "Ugh, the batteries dead. I'll wait for Lils to come down and send her back up." He smiles deviously. "You are that person, aren't you?" I laugh. "Yep." He smiles, then I notice his jawline. Oh, my God. "Hey if we are going to do school together, I should get your number, so we can all meet up." He offers. "Smooth, asking for a number." I joke as I hand him my phone. "Have you been down to Santa Monica Pier yet?" He asks. "No, I have literally only been in LA for less than 3 days. But it is near the top of my to-do list." I tell him. "Good. We should go tomorrow." He tells me. "That sounds awesome, I just have to check if I have plans or not." I tell him. There is a small pause of silence. Then he touches my hand. "Hey, what is your Instagram and stuff?" He asks. "That reminds me, I should change my name now." I smile and take out my phone to change it. "Ok, it is now everleighcnkendrick. What yours?" I ask him back. "lachlandavies00. What is your snap?" He asks when I see that he followed me, and I followed back. "I think it is ever.leigh" From his Instagram, I find Lilias account too. Lilia finally comes back down with 2 massive bowls of popcorn. "Hey Lils, the remote is flat, can you find batteries? Thanks, sis." He cheekily smiles at her. She rolls her eyes and runs back up. "What is it like with Anna as your mom? I can only imagine, with her as our neighbor, but for you shes, your mom must be so cool!" He questions, he has asked me so many questions. "It is definitely strange. No one really knows yet, so you can't tell anyone." I say as Lilia comes back down. "Tell anyone what?" She joins in. "That Anna is my mom." I repeat. "I wasn't planning on it." She smiles and chucks Lachie the batteries."Um, sis, one more thing. You forgot soda." He shakes his head sarcastically in disappointment. "Are you kidding me?" She gets frustrated. "Please!" He pleads. She grouches and stomps back upstairs. "Had you been to LA before?" He asks. So many questions! Then I realized, he likes me back. We had talked about signs that a boy likes you in class, and endless questions were the first thing. "Nope, this was my first." I say, trying not to smile too big. He puts the batteries in the remote and goes through all the movies. He clears his throat. "Ahem, we have today: High School Musical, The Fault In Our Stars, Mean Girls,  American Pie, Mean Girls, She's The Man, Grease, Trolls and Pitch Perfect." He finishes. "You like teen movies like this?" I tease. "Only the best." He says. I can't tell if he is joking or not. "Ok, last time I am going up there." Lilia hands me and Lachie and coke. "Ok, what movie?" I ask both of them. "How about The Fault in our Stars?" Lilia suggests. "Ew, too sappy. Grease?" Lachie protests. "Ev, you choose." Lilia encourages. "I have to go with Grease, sorry Lils." I laugh. "Fine." Lilia slouches back on the couch. I am in the middle of the two for the movie and taking turns they talk to me. Lilia mainly talking herself, and Lachie asking me, more questions. At one point in the movie, I am sure Lachie rested his hand on mine, or I either had a small stroke. I don't think I breathed when he did. All of a sudden, the lights turned on, Anna had come down to get me. "Baby, we gotta go. It's 10." She tells me. My eyes had to adjust to the light. "The movie is almost over." I complain. "I can walk her over soon, Anna. There is like, 10 minutes left." Lachie kindly offers. "Ok Ev? I'll see you in like 20, but I might be in bed. Thank you, Lachlan" Anna says, turns the lights back off and leaves. We don't really watch the rest of the movie anyway, we are all talking. Lilia gets my number and social media. "It sounds like I was going down to the pier with you tomorrow?" I double check when the credits roll. "You are? Well, I'm not. I'm going to Carolines." Lilia looks at Lachie. "We can just go. I'll show you around." Lachie says quickly. "I will text in the morning and let you know." I smile. "LILIA! Bring those cans and bowls up, we can't have bugs down there, again!" Joanne calls from the top of the stairs. She gets up and collects the bowls. "I'll see you soon, Ev. I should shower now. But talk soon." Lilia hugs me goodbye. "Definitely. So much fun tonight. Thank you!" I say before she is upstairs. I slowly start to stand. "Bugs, again?" I ask Lachie, wanting to hear the story. "I'll just get my shoes then I'll tell you." He says, going toward the stairs. The lights are still off and I can't see the stairs. I am about to trip, but catch his hand just in time. "Woah! Are you Ok? There is one odd stair." He laughs, standing me up straight. "I'm fine, just clumsy." I blush, but he can't see me anyway. "Hey, I would tell you the bug story, but now it's 10:30, you were meant to be home 10 minutes ago, if you can come to the pier tomorrow I'll tell you." He looks sorrily at me. "Yeah, that's fine. Can't wait." He holds out his hand to help me down the stairs to his door, even though I can see them fine. "I had so much fun tonight, it was great to meet you guys." I say as we cross the street. "I had such a good time. Let me know first thing if you can come." He looks at me. "Of course. I really want to, just depends on plans." When we get to the door, we hug for a while, then I put in the code to the front door and say goodnight. All the lights are off inside, so Anna must be asleep.
