You leaned forward to toss the newspaper back onto his desk carelessly and lean back in your seat, folding your hands in your lap as you looked at him with an unimpressed gaze. You let your shoulders bounce in a shrug as your long lashes fluttered shut for a moment before staring back up at him.

"You're trying to brag?" Seeing as though he didn't explain why he showed you this, you had decided to question. Was this another display of power?

"I don't need to brag." R offered a smug shrug of his shoulders which caused your eyes to roll across the room. "Do you know why we do what we do, Y/N?" R decided to reprise the question as his gaze focused on your downcast expression.

"Money?" Your dark eyes flashed back up at him, remaining unmoved in their gaze. It didn't matter to you. At this point, you were biding your time and collecting a paycheck. While gaining information on the inside in hopes of fueling your escape, later on, that was beside the point.

"That's just a bonus." R released a low breath; the faint flicker in his eyes seemed as though he was disappointed in your lackluster reply.

"Again, I don't care why you do a damn thing." Your voice spoke out before he could go on a long tangent about his methods, your hands unfolding as they slapped against the arms of the chair. "I'm just here to get my cut, hear my next assignment, and go about my business. Okay?"

R cocked a sharp brow toward you, letting his head tilt to the side as his golden blonde locks displaced and brushed against his forehead.  His lips perked, crinkling in the corner as only one of his dimples was displayed in his smirk. Though he seemed amused, you couldn't help but see that darkness lingering in his eyes. The darkness you had seen the night in your bedroom and it sent a chill straight up your spine.

"Very well." Turning away from you, he grabbed the envelope off his desk that contained your pay and turned to offer it out to you. Hesitantly, you extended your hand and let your black nails lap against the paper, cautious of his motives before swiftly snatching it back to yourself. He reached back to his desk a second time, grabbing a small black remote from the corner and raising it to point at the framed picture of the Stocgate behind his desk. His thumb pressed against a button before the map suddenly switched to a detailed picture of an older gentleman with grey streaks of hair along the sides of his profile and a bit of grey that peppered his manicured facial hair.

Your eyes opened a bit wider, taken by faint surprise that it was, in fact, a monitor and not a framed painting. You glanced at R briefly before taking a deeper look at the male's picture on the screen. He looked to be in his early forties; his beard helped hide the sharpness of his jaw, but it was still apparent. He looked like a well-built man, and the portrait almost seemed like a modeling shot.

"This is Jacob Mayers

"This is Jacob Mayers. Recently single multi-millionaire who just moved to Stocgate last spring." R explained as he set the remote back down and turned his attention to you.

"What? You want him dead because he has more class than you?" You questioned out of humorous spite. Your lips tugged into a mimicking smug grin as soon as his own faded. But, instantly, you felt your words biting you in your ass as soon as he shot that death-filled glare at you that made your smirk drop to the floor.

"He has been forcing families to relocate without proper compensation so that he has ground to build his latest business." Much to your surprise, R pointed out why he would even care about something like that. "It's causing chaos for the surrounding areas, and the media is refusing to offer coverage on this story due to Mr.Mayers political stance and deep-rooted connections within the local courthouses."

You couldn't help but let your brows knit downward, staring at R a bit perturbed. You said you didn't care for his methods, but then again, you couldn't help but wonder why he cared. So what people were being displaced? So what? Was this dude corrupt and using his influence to hold power over others? None of this affected his organization, so why did it matter?

"Is this another hit, or are we just stealing something from this poor fool?" You opted to keep your mind on the mission. It'd be counterintuitive if you were to take an interest in his motives now, he'd likely ridicule you for your hasty response when you cut him off earlier, that or be spiteful and not even bother to explain it to you now.

"Both." R shifted his tattoed, folding his arms against his chest as he let his denominating eyes bore down at you. "I want the intel on his connections, exactly who it is that's pulling strings to give this guy what he wants, and his life ended."

"And you want me to do this alone?" You abruptly pointed out. He had assigned you a babysitter up until now, but this seemed to be a high-profile case that he would let you do solo. Something didn't feel right.

"Is this out of your demographic? Because I can put someone else on the task." You could see R's strong-built shoulders flexing under that white-collar shirt as his eyes darted across your figure.

"No." You shook your head, deciding to stop the questionnaire and get on with the job. "When do I start?" You asked as you unfolded your legs and readied yourself to get up.

"Tonight. He's hosting a benefit dinner at his home. I suspect that many of his connections will be there to mingle and discuss plans." R unfolded his arms as he leaned down to one of the many drawers nestled just out of your view.

"Sounds like an exclusive event." You pointed out as you rose back to your feet, letting your bare soles press into the glossed wood floor as he stood in front of the 'boss's desk.

"That's why you'll be attending as the daughter of one of his connections we killed off last week. They haven't found the body yet, so a simple story of your father being out sick and you're there in his place should do the trick." He reached into one of the drawers of his desk and pulled out a slip of paper before offering it up to you. You tucked your paycheck into your left hand as you took the new slip of paper in your right, glancing over to see the elegantly written invitation extended to 'Mr. Yates'

You offered a curt nod as you tucked the invite away. Your mind instantly begins to turn with ideas and possible situations to ensure that this job with off without a hitch. But, your eyes blinked and forced the thought away so as not to distract yourself while you were standing before the man that revealed the devil himself. The time on the invitations had read '8 pm', about three hours from now.

"I'll go get set up then." Without a proper goodbye, you turned on your heel and headed for the door.

"I'll have a limo waiting for you by 7," R added to your back as you didn't bother to stop.

"Got it." Waving a hand in the air, you used that as your abrupt 'goodbye.' You reached the double doors and once again pulled them open to let your frame slip through and leave the ominous aura of the room behind as quickly as you could.

This task seemed simple enough. She likely needed to break into an office, steal some paperwork then get Mr. Mayers alone somewhere. A simple shot with a small-caliber pistol to the head should do the trick, best to bring a silencer, then bounce. Without Mono on your ass, maybe the job would be quicker than normal. The quicker you got it over with, the sooner you get paid, and the sooner you could get out of this damned organization.
