6. "I love you."

I love you, is the three words that Rex won't say. Since we began our relationship he hasn't said those words or even tried to. I had known going into the relationship that Rex wasn't good with feelings and I had expected him to take time getting use to having someone. But after ten years I thought that we would of got somewhere with our relationship, I mean the man still hasn't even kissed me.

"Hey (y/n), can I ask you a question?" Ezra asked softly.

"Sure, what do you want to know?" I asked softly.

"How did you and Rex meet?"

"Our friend Cut introduced us." I said as I smiled at the memory.

"(Y/n) can you watch the kids for me an Suu?" Cut asked softly.

"Sure, is something going on?" I asked as he grabbed his gun.

"A old friend needs help, we are leaving to help him. Shouldn't be gone long." He said calmly.

I nodded my head and watched him leave. Two days later he returned and I saw a man that looked remarkably similar to him.

"Rex, meet (Y/n). She lives near me and Suu." Cut explained.

"Nice to meet you Rex." I said as I sent him a smile.

"Pleasures mine." He said softly.

"So how did you get together then? Was it love at first sight?" Sabine asked as she set beside Ezra.

"Well, at first we didn't like each other at all... you see I wasn't a big fan of how Rex always needed to be in control." I said with a smile.

"You're going to break that shovel, here let me show you how to-."

"I know how to use a shovel Rex!" I snapped as I kept it away from him.

"I never said you didn't, but if you did it like this-"

"That would take longer. My way is quicker."

"And messier."

"Rex I have been doing this for nearly two years, I think I know how to-"

"If you did it this way it would be longer but cleaner."

I glared at Rex and handed the shovel to him.

"Do it yourself, Captain." I growled out.

"So how did you and him end up dating then? I mean you sound like you hated him." Ezra said softly.

"I didn't hate Rex, matter of fact I loved him.... I was just to stubborn to admit I cared for him." I said with a laugh.

I let out a sigh as I saw Rex shoveling the dirt. I grabbed a shovel and left to help him.

"Thought I was going to have to do this myself?" Rex asked calmly.

"I'm not evil." I said a so started to get the dirt into the bucket.

"Sorry I'm so bossy, I guess it's hard for me to get use to.... not being in command." He said softly.

"It's fine, just remember that there isn't a boss here, we are our own people and we do things differently." I said softly.

"Even though my way doesn't leave a mess." Rex said with a smile.

I rolled my eyes and got back to working. After we finished I made us some lemonade and handed Rex a glass.

"Thank you." He said softly.

"You're welcome, Captain." I said with a smile.

"You know I have a lot to get use to." He said softly.

"Well lucky for you, I'm a patient person." I said with a smile.

"Five years later we started dating and have been since."

"And he hasn't proposed yet?" Sabine asked shocked.

"We haven't even kissed yet." I said with a laugh.

"Has he ever said 'I love you'?" Ezra asked with a frown.

I shook my head no and he looked at me shocked.

"How are you still with him?" Sabine asked with a frown.

"Because I love him, and Rex tells me he loves me in his own way. Like when he cleans our house, or he makes dinner.... it's the little things that count to me... and as for him proposing.... I'd wait a thousand years to be his wife... and a hundred for him to kiss me." I said softly.

They soon left me alone and I started to pick up around my room. I heard my door open and smiled as I saw Rex walk into the room.

"Hey sweetheart." I said softly.

He sent me a smile and walked over to his dresser.

"How was your day?" He asked as he looked through his dresser.

"Boring. What about you?"

"Same, though I think our day is about to get better." He said as he pulled out a box.

"What's that?" I asked with a frown.

"Fifteen years ago, Cut introduced me to you.... the first thing he told me was that you were just as stubborn as me, and that I shouldn't fall for you because we were to much alike and the world would be doomed if we had a child." Rex said with a laugh.

"Suu said something similar to me." I said with a smile.

"(Y/n), you are my world and I...." He stopped talking and took in a deep breath.

"Take your time, don't hurt yourself." I said playfully.

He sent me a smile and shook his head.

"I love you." He said softly.

I looked at him shocked as he got down on one knee and opened the box to reveal a ring with a small blue sapphire.

"Will you make me the happiest man in the galaxy and marry me?" He asked softly.

"Yes! Yes a hundred times yes!" I exclaimed as I tackled him into a hug.

He let out a laugh and I smiled as I pulled away from and let him put the ring on my finger.

"I love you." I said before I pulled him into a kiss.

"I love you too." He said softly.
