"Will you leave him and run? Or will you stay and fight?"

Feeling cold, scared, and confused, Rose picked up a stone and threw it as hard as she could at Loren's face. She then turned around and bolted into a run as quickly as her short legs could take her.

"I'll count to three, Madame. After that, we'll resume our unfinished dance. 1!", shouted Loren. He stepped out of the bakery and kicked Chen's body to the side.

Rose heard the loud "1" from behind her. Tears fell from her eyes as she shouted, "HELP! HE'S GOING TO KILL ME! HELP!"

Every person that she passed just looked at her and smiled. Some laughed, while others pushed Rose away when she grabbed their hands.

"2!"

Rose was getting tired. She tripped on a root that was hidden by the snow and fell forward into the street. Her left knee was bleeding from hitting something sharp. She tried to stand up, but the pain and fatigue were too much. She crawled behind a tree and tried her best to stay as quiet as possible.

"3! Here I come!", Rose heard from the distance. Her hands shook from the fear and the cold. Blood dripped down her leg as she held her knees to her chest

*whistle*

The familiar whistling sound was a few feet away, gradually getting closer with each passing second. Rose covered her mouth with both hands, muffling her cries and breath. She leaned as far back as she could on the tree trunk.

"Excuse me, good sir. By any chance, did you see a scared little girl pass by? She's a bit dirty, tattered clothes, messy hair.", asked Loren to one of the men on the street.

"Please don't say anything. Please don't say anything. Please don't say anything.", thought Rose to herself, over and over again.

"Oh... I know that girl. One of those rowdy orphans who keep playing on the street. She's hiding behind that tree over there.", replied the man.

Rose's eyes widened in shock. She scampered up the tree as quickly as she could, causing snow to fall from the branches.

"Wow! Look at you. Climbing up that tree like a monkey. Should I join you up there, or will you come down on your own?", asked Loren when he finally found Rose. He lowered his blade and stretched his arms.

"HELP! HE'S GOING TO KILL ME! HE KILLED MY FRIEND! PLEASE CALL THE --" ... *whoosh~* ... "--guards..."

Rose looked at Loren and saw a longbow in his hand. She then looked at herself.

Right at the center of her chest was a wooden arrow shaft. Rose was filled with terror at the sight. The pain followed soon after, making her lose her grip on the tree. She fell hard on the ground, face-first, embedding the arrow through her back.

She used all her remaining strength to look to her side, at the direction where Chen's body was. And all she saw were the citizens, going about their day as if nothing happened.
