"Fuck.", thought Jinu when his Teleport spell didn't work. Knowing that he was about to get battered and skewered by three tentacles, Jinu closed his eyes and accepted his fate.
"This is it... I'm sorry, Mino, Yoon, Hoony. I couldn't fulfill my promise. Please take care of my grandparents for me."
"Tsk! I was just starting to be friends with Lady Inna, too. I'm too young to die. Wait. My internal monologue is taking too long. Am I not dead yet?"
With much hesitation, Jinu opened his eyes.
"Eh? Where did it go?"
The chilly night breeze greeted Jinu's face as he swam back to the ship. And after climbing up the side, loud cheering and applause filled the deck.
Jinu felt so cold and confused. "What hap-"
"EXCELLENT WORK, LAD! YOU DEFEATED THAT BEAST ON ITS HOME GROUND! OR HOME WATER! HAHAHAHA! WHATEVER! EXCELLENT WORK!", interrupted Catropus while slapping Jinu on the back over and over again.
"Aw... Aw! Aw!!! Please stop killing me. Where's Madame Roseanne and Seulgi? Did the general make it?", asked Jinu.
The smile on Catropus' face disappeared when he remembered what happened to Rose. He accompanied Jinu below deck.
Now that the adrenaline was leaving his body, every step that Jinu took made his torso feel like exploding. He had at least one broken rib that was probably causing damage to more organs.
But when Jinu saw General Shindong exiting Seulgi and Rose's room, he bolted straight at him.
"General. What happened?", Jinu asked.
"Thank the gods. I'm glad that you're safe. I can't bear losing another one.", said General Shindong as he pulled Jinu into an embrace.
"Another one? Tell me your joking, general. Madame Roseanne is still alive. Please say that she is."
Before General Shindong could say anything, the door behind him swung open.
Seulgi's tear-filled smiling face peeked out. "IT WORKED, GENERAL! SHE'S BACK!", shouted Seulgi in her hoarse voice.
All three men entered the room after Seulgi.
General Shindong let out the loudest sigh of relief while Jinu collapsed on the floor and leaned on the door frame.
Catropus couldn't help but cry when he saw Rose, breathing and alive.
"It worked. It actually worked. Shit.", said General Shindong. He couldn't help but chuckle while hiding his eyes with his hands.
"Did you just curse, General Shindong? Wait. Are you crying?", asked Rose as Seulgi helped her sit up and lean on the side of the bed. She had a beautiful smile on her face as she looked at General Shindong.
"Your legs? How do they feel?", asked Jinu.
"It feels like I was born this way. All the pain and discomfort is gone.", answered Rose while alternately raising her knees.
"The spell cures all wounds, but it doesn't restore missing body parts. There's a different spell for that.", explained General Shindong.
"Really? What spell? Do you know it, general?", asked Seulgi.
"Unfortunately not. It is a high-level transmutation spell called Regenerate. It's hard to learn since you can't practice. Unless you have some extra limbs that you want to cut off."
