The village before him was destroyed, reduced to ruble. Zakai walked around, making sure there weren't any severely wounded.
"Kai!" Mina went to run up to him. He opened his arms with a smile on his face, glad that she was safe, but her mother swooped her up, looking at Zakai with...disgust and fear in her eyes.
"You're a monster!" She hissed. "You control these cursed creatures."
"Mons-I just saved yo-" Jeremy stepped between his wife and Zakai defensively.
"I...think it best if you were to leave, Zakai."
"But...Jeremy..." he reached his hand out to him, to which they stepped back.
At that, with downcast eyes and a broken heart, Zakai left. Not looking back at the village. Just walking forward, to the dark forest. Alone once again.
As he walked, he thought to himself. Thoughts that tore him up from the inside out.
Monster? Me? A monster? I'm far from it. I saved them. I helped them. I protected them. They hate me? What did I do? Why? Why?! Whywhywhywhywhy?!?!?!?!
The thoughts ran through his mind all at once, making him feel an inner turmoil. Why was it he always lost everything? Is it worse to lose those you loved to a tragedy, or because they left you thinking you a monster?
On one hand you lose them forever, never to be seen again. On the other you live with the memories with the look they had in their eyes, the fear, the disgust. The hatred. The words. Who knew words could hurt so much? Why is that? Why do words hurt more than any of the wounds he's sustained?
The memory of him forgetting Ruby and his friends flashed through his mind, making his heart ache.
His vision was over took by that of Marcos.

"Do you even understand what I'm saying?" It was Ruby's voice. She was talking to Marco., who simply tilted his head at the question. "Ugh, can you not show me in any way where Kai is?" Her voice sounded desperate, sad, heart broken. "Please Marco...I just want to know that he's safe..." Zakai's heart wrenched at those words. He felt like someone had just stabbed him through the heart.
He wanted to go to her...to hold her in his arms, kiss her....to smell the roses that overtake his nose when she's around.
He clinched his hands into fists, shaking from rage. "DAMNIT!" When he unclenched his hands a shockwave exploded through the forest, knocking the trees down, creating a large barren circle around him. "Why me!" He grabbed his head, tears forming on his face. "Why am I the one being called a monster..." the word reminded him of the Dragon the killed his parents. His friends. Everyone.
"I'm nothing like them....right?" Memories of the people he's killed, the thoughts that ran through his mind in a dire situation. They were dark thoughts. "Maybe...I am a monster." He looked at his hands.

100 years AG (After Gods)

I stared at my hands, covered in blood. I couldn't help but smile devilishly. This power...it allows me to do anything! No one can stop me. I will destroy everything!

As I stood in the middle of the village, watching as my shadows tore it to the ground, I could hear the people begging for mercy. To be left to live. But why should I do that? This same village is the capital of sinners. Bandits will loot villages and towns and then the goods would be brought here to be sold.
They profited off of the loss of others. It was sickening. They all must die!

"Who are you?" The man that sat across from me asked. "You come in here and tear the place up with both hands tied behind your back."
I couldn't help but smile at the question. "My name?" I repeated. What was my name? I...don't remember. I guess it won't be to hard to come up with one. "My name is of no importance to you. But if you wish to address me, call me Reaper."

                                    Present

The wind blew harsh and cold as he pushed through the snowy mountains. He was heading to Silvias. Yes, he could teleport there if he wished, but...something changed inside of him. His power....it was...inhuman. It was monstrous.
It was a curse on its own, a forbidden power he should never use. And that's what he decided. Maybe that's why the God told him to only use the power when the time was right. Maybe it was only supposed to be used then and only then. But how can that be?
To have the power to save innocent people but being forbidden to use it? How could any normal human being just sit and watch anyone die? It's...wrong. People deserve to die a death that was meant for them, not a death they could be saved from.
Why was he given this power? The power to save all, but he prevented from saving any? It's so...unfair! It's hypocritical to be this strong and to do nothing with the power. It's an insult to the people of this world!
Maybe then he wasn't supposed to save them? Maybe...they're meant to die? But...they don't deserve to die, so why should he let them?

"Don't act like you're an innocent boy." A woman's voice echoed in his head.
"Salem!" He hissed. The voice sounded like hers.
"Hahahahahaha! No, I'm much worse than her."
  "Are you....that woman?"
"Don't act like you want to save them all. Don't act like you don't know people deserve to die."
"Not everyone deserves to die! Sure, some do, but not all!"
"Don't lie to yourself! You love it. The thrill of the kill. When you killed those Beowulf's at the entrance exam...when you killed those bandits that kidnapped Mina. The fear in their eyes. The blood lust in yours. You loved it all. You are the bringer of death, and you love it!"
"No!" He grabbed his head and fell to his knees. "You're wrong!" Visions of himself flashed through his mind. It wasn't just his life, but all of his lives. The woman known as the Reaper, the people she killed. Leo and the ones he killed. The rampage he went on. The blood he spilled. The blood he, himself, has spilled. He was a killer, no matter the life he was in.
"Stop it!" He cried. "I'm not a killer! I'm not a killer!"
"No. You're a murderer. Just like me, like Leo, like all the ones in between."
"No! I...I want people to live. I don't want to kill them. I want to save people! I want to save everyone."
"Do you really think the only way to save someone is by keeping them alive?" The voice spoke in his head, preventing him from moving or thinking. "Sometimes death is something someone wishes for in order to be saved."
"Za....Kai....p-please...k-k-kill...me..." James voice echoed in his head.
"Stop it!" Tears rolled down his face at the memory of his friends dying from his own cowardice.
"You claim you want to save everyone, but you don't even try to save those you loved. And what was the reason for that? Because you didn't have power? You never wanted to save anyone, if you did, you would have tried no matter if your life was in danger or not. But now that you have power, you let it get to your head!? You corrupted your own thoughts with lies of heroism, saving everyone.
"No, you don't want to save anyone, that's not what it's about. It's about killing those you hate. You didn't want to save your friends, you wanted to kill the beasts that did. You didn't want to save Mina, you wanted to kill the bandits who put her in danger. You are the bringer of death! You reap death, not life!"
"N...no....you-you're wrong. I...I do want to save them...I wanted to save them all..." his family and friends flashed in his vision. "I want to give them the gift of life! I don't want to kill them!"
"Haha! You think life and death are different? Living life is living till you die, they are interconnected."
"No, you're wrong!"
His surroundings changed and he found himself face to face with the other half of Salem. "Am I?"
