Rachel swims to the spot the peculiar boy saved her. It was usually isolated so she took her chances. She looked around and took out her mirror.
"Ok..Let's give this a try.." she inhales exhales and closes her eyes. She opens her eyes and they glow more red than before. "Change my form." She commanded
For a moment it was quiet. Nothing was happening. She looked around feeling jinx tricked her til she had a tingling inside of her that made her feel she was sinking inside out
She felt her tail was ripping into two but without so much pain, it felt more as in just weird due to her fathers evil still inside her
Her tale is now two long skinny legs and she is flabbergasted. She feels the water rushing in her mouth and almost chokes her so she kicks and swims up back to the rocks
She raises herself on the rock coughing out the water. She was confused.
She picked up her mirror and looked at her face. Her red eyes were blue. But that wasn't the weirdest thing. The tale she's had forever has vanished.. she knew it was all overwhelming but she had to try and move. She remembered seeing humans walk on them so she spent that evening learning in the cave.
There she found some abandoned clothing. A bikini top, and pair of beige shorts.
"I can't believe this is happening.. am I really safe?" She thought
She hides her mirror where no one could find it and she takes a big step into walking out the cave.
She see's the sunset lowering behind the ocean. The wind blowing her damp hair. She is amazed. She continues to walk over the rock way until she is on sand. She is bewildered to the feeling. She goes to her knees and pushes her hands in the soft ground.
"Peculiar"
She gets back up and walks to the nearby town. Where there is people, shops and more
She walks by people on skateboards, trying to sale her keep sakes, and dogs barking. Mermaids were afraid of dogs. Many sailors bring them and warn the sailors if they were nearby. This dog came to her feet and rolled over
Her initial thought of reacting aggressively wasn't there.. as if she didn't see the dog as such. She bent down to touch him and felt of his fur. She instantly smiled. She used both hands to as the dog wagged his tail.
"Dodge!" A young boy yelled out. "Dodge." He came to his dog. "Sorry.. he got out of his leash."
She looked at the boy with her big blue eyes. She never had a human speak to her before..
"Are you okay? He didn't bite you didn't be?! He doesn't ever do that." He held a hand on her upper arm to insure her safety
She looked down and shook her head.
"Ok good. Phew." He was relieved. "So, what's your name?"
She thought to herself she didn't want her real name here. She wants a fresh start. She saw a sign that said "Rachel's Sandals" and it sound like hers but different. "Rachel."
"That's a pretty name. I'm Gar"
