dr carter, i presume

July 4, 1996.

i rolled my suitcase throughout the airport. i was back in chicago.

i also had a night shift to work.

i assumed everyone would be at the annual baseball game county always played on the fourth of july.

it was really sentimental leaving hawaii but everything eventually comes to an end. back to reality.

i dropped my luggage off at my apartment and gathered my hospital id.

i walked into county, the wind hitting my sunburned nose.

"welcome back dr. l/n" mark greeted.

"nice tan" susan smiled

"susan, you were thinking about taking time off right?"

"yeah"

"you need to go to hawaii"

i handed her a brochure

"i have so many options now"

"well, i can see by the tan you have that hawaii was good?" mark asked

"oh, it was amazing" i smiled

"are we heading off?" doug exclaimed from the lounge

"yeah, we were just welcoming y/n back"

"anyways, you guys have fun" i waved my hand.

doug stood there and looked at me for a couple of seconds before heading off.

one of the big reasons why i didn't want to be back in chicago.

"dr. carter, you're all over the hospital tonight aren't you?"

"y/n, welcome back" he said out of breath

"yeah, first day as a surgeon"

"sounds tiring"

"er doc can't be any less tiring"

"true, i knew i should've gone into dermatology"

"you were going to go into dermatology" he said surprised.

"no, either this or physciatry" i laughed

"you're into more lively occupations then?"

"yeah, i like the action i guess"

his pager went off.

he sighed

"you'll get through this carter"

i patted him on the back

he smiled, heading off.

i continued filling in my charts.
