day for knight
June 30, 1998

a couple weeks went by, the summer heat blistering against the pavement. my freshly blown out hair bounced as i walked to the er. the hot breeze blew across my arms. i wore a pink colored tank top with lace trimming across the top of it. scrub pants accompanying it.
i walked in the er, it was like an oven in there.
everyone was singing happy birthday to jerry.
a short blonde girl approached me as i put on my lab coat.
"i don't think i've met you yet" she stuck out a hand to shake
"lucy knight"
i shook the hand
"you look like a model" she said, she wide eyed
"oh stop it, i do not" i laughed
"y/n l/n"
"you're one of the new med students?"
she nodded
"im an attending physician" i smiled
in my peripherals, i noticed doug motioning me to follow him
"well, i'll see you around ms. knight"
she gave me a nod before i headed doug's way
"you cut your hair" i frowned, closing the empty exam room door behind me
"it's summer, the long hair was getting too much to handle"
"why, you liked it?" he added, pulling me closer to him
"maybe" i smirked
"you free tonight?" he asked
"i don't know, you up on waiting for me to get out of here?" i smiled
"when are you off?"
my nose touched his.
"midnight"
"you know my address" he smirked, pulling away from me.
"i hate you" i giggled
"mhm" he sing songed, leaving the room.
"get back here" i whisper shouted

"y/n"
"carter?"
"i'm swamped, can you do a pelvic for me?"
"sure"
i took the chart
"ready for the pelvic?" carol asked
"yeah, in exam two?"
she nodded, i headed over there
"hello ma'am, i'm dr. l/n, i'll be taking over for dr. carter"
"okay" she said
"we're gonna do a pelvic, okay?"
i out my gloves on
lucy came in to observe
the patient opened her legs
after examining, i saw that she was having a miscarriage.
"what is it?" she asked
she could tell what was happening.
"ma'am, unfortunately you're having a miscarriage"
"oh my god"
she sat up
"when examining, the fetus was out of the womb"
"i'm so sorry"
those were the hardest to deliver. most of the time pregnancies were some of the happiest things. when you had to tell a mother, especially one who had a history of miscarriages, it was horrible.

"can someone take this body to the morgue?" weaver shouted
"i'm off" mark said, going out the door
"i'll do it" i rolled my eyes
i wheeled the patient to the elevator, and then down to the morgue.
when susan and i were interns, we were told to go and take someone down here. we eventually got locked down here and that was the last time i ever pushed this elevator button.
it sure was a freaky place.
thankfully, someone took the body away pretty fast. for once i was actually relieved to come back to the er.

it was hours later. i was finally off. the er was dead so i left a half an hour early.
the heat simmered down and it was now a little breezy outside. the moon was shining brightly. i began walking toward the l. i turned the corner, out of the ambulance bay.
"boo!" a voice shouted
and there doug was, hiding.
"jesus" i laughed
"you waited" i smiled
"of course i did" he said, matter- of -factly.
he snaked an arm around my waist.
"my place?" i asked
he smiled.
