(Y/n's Intro)

'Doing the right thing is not always easy. In fact, sometimes, it is the most painful decision you will ever have to make' ~ Ranata Suzuki.

(Y/n's Pov)

My mother used to say 'Life is complicated, and sometimes we get lost in it's complexities'.
She also said that 'Even after making the wrong choice, we can always make it right'.
I wish it were that easy.
It's harder than it looks, and I don't know where my situation started & where it will end.

I sighed when I put the pencil I was holding down. Taking a little break from the worksheet infront of me and then rubbed my eyes.
A sound caught my attention from across the cafetria, laughter and bonding.
The subject of my dilemma Chase Davenport, coming out of the lunch line with his brother & sister Adam & Bree Davenport and Leo.
Chase must have sensed I was watching cause he turned his head and smiled, and began waving.
I softly smiled, waving back and turning away from his gaze, guilt rearing its ugly head when my eyes caught Marcus, remembering who I work for.
I began rubbing my eyes as Marcus came over to sit with me.

'I really wish you were here mom, then maybe you can tell me how I can make things right'.
After Marcus sat down as he asked.
"Hows finishing that worksheet coming along N/n"?
Marcus was focused on situating the food he picked to eat today on his plate.
I stopped rubbing my eyes and peeked to see Chase, Adam, Bree, & Leo stopped in their tracks, beginning to walk over.
I softly smiled and waved them off, the never liked Marcus and whenever they see him with me, they come in, metaphorically, guns blazing.
'I have to keep them safe and from finding out the truth a little bit longer.
I gave them a smile and a thumbs up, then waved them off when Bree mouthed 'Are you sure'?
Giving them another nod, Chase nodded and turned to his siblings, they then walked to their usual table.

It's moments like this I really wish I wasn't working for a mad man, my own father, who wants the Davenports abilities for himself, it's also moments like this that I wished that said mad man wasn't my dad.
I continued watching them until they sat down, then began resuming rubbing my eyes as I answered Marcus.
"What do you think"?
He hummed and said, looking at me.
"You okay N/n? I've noticed you have been out of your head space when Douglas and I are coming up with a plan on how we can get what mister Davenport put in those kids".
I then said, under my breath.
"I don't know, maybe because they're my friends Marcus.
How should I feel? Should be okay with knowing that I'm hurting the people that I care about who also possess a power a maniac wants".

Marcus hummed, placing his hand on top of my right as he said softly, Marcus was many things, a jerk, a bully and a weird guy to be a confidant in these circumstances; but he'll never tell anyone my secret friendship with the davenport children.
"I know N/n, but it has to be down.
It'll be over once Douglas gets what he wants".
I then said grabbing the pencil again.
"Easy for you to say, you don't have to live with the man & live with yourself".
I saw the look Marcus was giving me, understanding and sympathy.

He nodded and said.
"I know, life sometimes gives us a crappy hand".
His phone peeped and he looked towards me after reading the message.
I then said, gathering my stuff.
"I know, Douglas wants us".
'Great, another mission from dear old dad'.

When I walked out of the cafeteria with Marcus, I turned to look to see Chase was watching us leave.
I softly smiled and wished, with all my heart, that things are different.
I hated the feeling of an invisible force squeezing my heart in my chest.
Why did I have to develop a crush on Chase Davenport?

(Chase's Pov)

I watched Y/n leave the cafeteria and as the doors closed I couldn't help but sigh, lean into my hand & think about when we first met.
