I finished the first edit of "Delilah Cross and the Stolen Bride" today, which is ahead of schedule.  I'm hoping to use the extra days I have to write the short for the novel, but I'm really uncertain what to do for the short.  So far, all of my books have been in first person POV.  I know some people hate that POV and think all good fiction should be third person, but I like the narrator having a more informal, intimate voice and I find that's easier in first person.  That being said, it has its limitations, specifically that the narrator can only speak of what they've seen and experienced.

Of course, the narrator could establish that the story they are telling is one that they have heard from others and thus the narrator is retelling another character's story.  However, that gets messy and I feel like it loses that informal, intimate tone that the first person POV was giving me.  So should I want to explore other characters' story lines, my hands would be a bit tied.

This usually isn't a problem because typically the worlds I'm writing are so small that I don't have a need or desire to venture out into someone's else's life.  However, Whisper Valley is meant to be several books long because it is about a complex world with subplots weaving in and out.  As such, there's characters in there that I would like to spend more time with.

Now I would continue writing the novels from Del's perspective, that can't be changed.  However, I think it should be okay to jump into someone else's head for these shorts.  The question is, would that be enough for me, or would I consider writing a whole nother series that takes place in Whisper Valley, but from a different perspective?  I doubt I would do this, but it's something to consider.  Of course, I could still write the short and if it really calls to me, I can elaborate on it in a few novels later...

Anyway, the question comes down to, is the short going to be about Del or someone else.  Until I answer that question, it's a bit hard to decide what the story will be about which of course makes writing it a tad difficult :P
