Hari was sitting on the train with Hagrid. She opened her letter again to look it over. She unfolded a piece of paper she hadn't noticed the night before. He had told her not to be scared of him, that no one would hurt her. That was very hard to believe, but she would try.

Can we buy all this in London? Hari wrote, Hagrid nodded

They left the train and seemingly wandered aimlessly through the streets of London until arriving at a small grimy pub called the leaky cauldron.

Hagrid walked up to the bar with Hari, and appeared to have a conversation. Then suddenly the bartender looked down at Hari and said.

"Good Lord," Hari read "is this -- can this be -- ?" He seemed lost, "Bless my soul, Harry Potter... what an honour." He hurried out from behind the bar, rushed toward Hari and seized his hand, tears in his eyes. "Welcome back, Mr Potter, welcome back." suddenly he paused, "Wait... you're a girl..... I'm so sorry Miss Potter."

Hari looked up a Hargid with pleading eyes, and he quickly steered her out the back exit, away from the gawking crowd who were all pressing forwards to meet her.

Out in the courtyard in the back, they met a pale young man, wearing a turban.

"P-P-Potter," he stammered grasping Hari's hand, "c-can't t-tell you how p-pleased I am to meet you." AGH, stammering was so hard to read. "I-I w-will b-b-be y-o-ur d-e-ff-ence a-against t-t-he d-dark a-a-arts tee-ea-cher, Pr-proffe-s-sor Qu-quirill." He walked back into the pub.

Hagrid gently moved Hari backwards, and then tapped the wall three times with the point of his umbrella. In the middle of the wall, a small hole appeared, starting at the brick Hagrid had tapped -- it grew wider and wider -- a second later they were facing an archway large enough even for Hagrid, an archway onto a cobbled street that twisted and turned out of sight. A large sign said, Welcome to Diagon Alley

Hagrid grinned at Hari's amazement. They stepped through the archway, into a cobbled street with slanting buildings all around. Hagrid walked down the street with Hari in tow. Hari wished she had about eight more eyes. She turned her head in every direction as they walked, trying to look at everything at once: the shops, the things outside them, the people doing their shopping. There were shops selling robes, shops selling telescopes and strange silver instruments Hari had never seen before, windows stacked with barrels of bat spleens and eels' eyes, tottering piles of spell books, quills, and rolls of parchment, potion bottles, globes of the moon...
