Chapter 41:

The science of lockers

"Eh?" said Akira, frowning at her locker.

"Sora-san, I think I forgot to close my locker--"

"That can't be," said Sora, "Remember? I was teasing you yesterday and you slammed it shut."

"Yeah," said Akira, "But it was open now."

"Check your stuff Akira-san!"

"Don't get paranoid. I think it's all there."

"If you say so..." said Sora, turning to her own locker. To her utter dismay, it swung open.

"Akira-san! Someone has been fiddling with our lockers!"

"How come you're so confident?"

"I never leave it open! I always check twice before leaving," said Sora, frantically going through her stuff, "My books have been moved!"

"You're paranoid!"

"I'm positive! I have a system. They're all arranged in a specific way."

"Is everything there?"

"Yeah."

"Then what's your problem? It's probably an accident."

Sora was now examining the lock, turning it so that the light fell on it.

"Akira-san, there's a scratch on the lock."

"No way," said Akira examining it. It was really faint.

"Let me examine yours," said Sora who was now in a frenzy.

"Oro?" she said, "There's nothing!"

"Were you expecting something?"

Sora frowned. "Something's fishy."

"That I agree with."

"The person who did this knew your combination but not mine."

"How can you say that?"

"Mine is picked. Yours isn't."

"Fair enough."

"Akira-san, who knows your combination?"

"Hmm... I dunno. The guys, you, Suki-san...."

Sora looked at her in amazement. "You told eight people your combination!"

"So what?"

Sora shook her head. "Never mind."

As Sora left, Akira was cent percent sure that she would probably never let this go. Akira herself was a bit curious. Oh well... It wouldn't hurt if she could get to the bottom of this.
