WITH THE DEVELOPMENTS WE HAD, ALISON AND I MARCHED OVER TO SPENCER'S AT LIGHTNING SPEED. She had no idea what the hell to say. She was numb. I would be too. Does this mean someone is impersonating her older dead brother?
My thoughts went to Jason. Yet another lie he was fed by his family. Makes me sick just thinking about it. I can't wait to graduate and bust out of this town, just the two of us.
"So, what'd your dad say when you showed him that picture?" Hanna asked Ali.
"Did he admit Charles was the boy next to Jason?" Aria followed up with.
"Guys, give her a minute." Spencer interjected. I nodded silently as a way of thanking her. This isn't easy to talk about.
"Charles is my brother." Ali finally said.
The girls were silent.
"Then, why hasn't he been living with you family this whole time?" Emily asked.
"Charles was born 15 months before Jason. He said they knew he was troubled early on. They tried to help him with therapy but no one knew what was wrong with him. It was too dangerous for him to stay in the house." Ali paused and looked at me to continue.
"He was institutionalized at Radley. No one said anything because no one knew him. They moved here after he was put there because Mrs. D wanted to be close to him." I finished for her.
I hated leaving Jason right now but he understood. I was going back there tonight to stay with him. I don't want him to be alone.
"I'm so sorry, Ali." Emily said and walked over to her.
"All roads lead back to Radley." Spencer huffed. This makes sense as to why Jessica was on the board of trustees or whatever.
"I don't get it. Why wouldn't your parents tell you about him? Why keep him a secret?" Aria asked.
"My mom wanted to tell us but my dad wanted to wait until we were older. He never got better. He got worse. He said Charles couldn't have done this all to us." Ali continued.
"How is your father so sure?" Hanna asked.
This was the part that left me speechless. Ali and I shared a look and I patted her back.
"Because Charles is dead." Ali paused. "He killed himself when he was 16. He never left Radley."
"How did he do it?" Spencer whispered.
"He took pills." I replied weakly.
"Where did they bury him?" Emily asked.
"My dad was out of the country when it happened so my mom had him cremated." Ali replied.
"He's lying." Hanna shook her head. 10 points for subtly. We all picked our heads up and looked at her.
