Y/n's POV

We entered the restaurant and the smell of gorgeous food filled my nose. "Get whatever you want, my treat." Nat told the boys as we got a table. They nodded. I sort of zoned out trying to listen to the music. It sounded old and almost jazz like, of course I didn't understand the words as they were German but the tune made me smile. Steve must have begun listening to it as he stared down at the table sadly. As the music went on he looked even sadder. "Hey, Cap. What's up?" I asked as Nat was translating the menu for Sam. Steve looked up, frowning at me, his eyes watery. "The song, it um. It's something from my past. Just brings up painful memories."

"Peggy." I mumbled back and he nodded. "I'm sorry." The music ended and we both snapped back into the room. Nat read the menu to us and we made our choice. She told the waitress and then we dove back into catching up. I told them all about Cornwall as Nat looked at me, almost smitten. The food eventually arrived and we tucked in, the boys looked as if it was the best thing they had ever eaten. It made me smile at how thankful they looked. I had missed them, I knew Nat really had.

Nat's POV

I couldn't help but feel secretly giddy. Being around my friends was perfect, they were my family. Steve had been my partner for a few years, we were so close. I wanted to bring him home but I knew he wouldn't come. He couldn't. Ross would have them both thrown in prison. But I enjoyed the moment whilst it lasted. Watching and listening as Y/n told her stories or the boys commented on things they had seen on their run from the law. I felt really guilty, we were on the same team in the great scheme of things yet I was walking free whilst they were hiding in forgeign countries. I knew what being on the run felt like, it was hard and I didn't envy them at all. As that feeling of guilt grew, I began to go off my food. We were living in a wonderful home with money and luxury whilst they were scraping together what they had left or what they had earned from dodgy jobs here and there. "Where are you going next?" I asked Steve, trying to lighten the conversation.

"We were heading for England. Ideally some time in the Scottish mountains was the plan. Might as well see some things if we have to keep travelling." Y/n shrugged at his words, showing she thought it was a good idea. "Do you want some travel buddies?" I asked again and Sam frowned at me. "Or maybe we could get you back to the compound without the officials knowing. I'm sure Fury will cover your back. If you stay on house arrest. Or we could try to reason with-"

Steve shut me down with a disappointed smile. "Natasha you know that's not possible."

"But what if we could bring you home?" Y/n asked him desperately, catching onto my idea.

Y/n's POV

My heart dropped at Steve's words snapped us back to reality, it really was impossible to bring them home. Not until we somehow worked something out with the officials. I took a mouthful of my drink, thinking. We weren't needed at home. Maybe we could help the boys to England. They would need a little extra money.

We finished our meal and ordered dessert, waiting in silence for the dishes to arrive. I listened in on the music, it's gentle tune of Jazz reminded me of my father. He loved to play old vinyls that belonged to his parents. The music reminded me of him, even if it wasn't German. What was supposed to be a nice evening had turned a little low as we were all reminded of some hard truths and painful memories. "Are you ok?" I thought to Nat, she was taping her finger quickly on the table, a sign she was stressed. She glanced at me before silently replying. "Thinking." I frowned at her short answer. Her green eyes danced across faces in the restaurant, they paused upon a scary looking man who was sat with other men in all black suits. Nat's eyes narrowed on the man before breaking away to look at the table. "You know him don't you." I asked her and she nodded.

"Why do I feel like you two are having some sort of telepathic communication. Nat you just nodded, no one said anything." Sam looked at us both, confusion written legibly on his face.

"Who says we aren't." I replied sarcastically, knowing perfectly well that we actually were. He shrugged his shoulders and we fell back into silence, mostly just looking down at the table devoured in our own thoughts. That's what I liked about the Avengers. Whenever we were in the compound we would spend hours in silence, all of us just thinking or working. The general company of one another was enough. That was the same for this occasion.

Eventually the dessert arrived and we tucked in, slowly the conversation built again to reminisce old memories, mostly just the truth or dare game we had played.

"Should have seen it coming, you two were flirting like crazy. Didn't you end up sleeping in Y/n's bed?" Sam looked at Nat and she nodded with a smile.

"God if I had known, I wouldn't have wasted so much time." I admitted, I had always had some sort of connection with Nat since the first night she had comforted me. It quickly developed into a feeling I was too scared to admit. But I didn't regret taking it slow, things couldn't have been any more perfect.

"If you had told me when I left that I would come back to find Natasha completely smitten, I probably would have laughed. No offence." Steve looked at Nat with his sort of cheeky grin.

"None taken. Honestly I think I wouldn't have believed it either." Nat replied, looking at me, her eyes full of love. I scrunched my nose at her and went back to my mint ice cream and brownie.

After the meal Sam and Steve led us further into town, a little bit of sightseeing. Me and Nat walked hand in hand as Sam told us a story about some men they encountered in Spain. We walked towards the town hall. It was gorgeously lit up, the lights reflecting on the lake in front of it. We wandered along the path that sort of led through the park. I took in the beautiful sights around me, listening tentatively to the stories of my friends. "She's learnt how to fly." Nat told them proudly and I couldn't help but blush. "And her telekinesis is much stronger. It's so cool because whenever we just want food from the fridge or something like that she just waves her hand we have it. Then we figured out she can communicate telepathically. So far it's just with me which proves super helpful for missions as we can communicate without a sound so then no one catches it. She's a proper spy now." I just listened as Nat talked happily about me, almost as if I wasn't there. My stomach danced as I realized just how in love with her I was. "Well I'm nowhere near as talented she is. It took her 15 minutes to find the hotel you were at yet the government's top people can't find you. And she can beat up like five guys single handedly. We were on a mission. We actually ran into Peter but that's not the point. She beat like three guys as once whilst me and Peter were struggling even with our extra abilities. And she's been training my combat skills which bear in mind I'm useless at!" I stopped, realising I was just going on about how amazing my girlfriend was, something they basically already knew.

"Thanks babe." Nat thought sarcastically.

"Love you bubs." I replied, smiling. Steve and Sam exchanged glances.

"Care to share it with the class." Sam rolled his eyes but we shook our heads.

We walked for a short while longer until going back to the hotel to say goodnight. Nat closed the door to our room and locked it. She looked at me, her eyes searching over me. She walked slowly closer before reaching up to cup my face. She looked me in the eye and I subconsciously bit my lip. "Am I making you nervous Y/n." She said, her tone more to the point than it had been.

"No." I replied hastily.

"Liar." Her face didn't break from it's neutral expression. My breath hitched as her hands moved to my waist. "Don't lie darling." She smirked now, knowing it made me melt.

"What are you going to do about it?" I smiled cheekily. She raised an eyebrow. Her hands on my hips guided me backwards towards the bed. "Is that a challenge darling?" she whispered in my ear before pushing me down onto the bed. For a moment I felt a hint of panic flow through me, remembering the drunk man's thought but within moments they had fizzled away. She got onto the bed beside me, wrapping her legs around mine and twisting me on my back. Her lips met mine in a passionate kiss that went on for a while. Eventually we called it a night, not wanting to take things too far in the grubby room.

I slept, wrapped in her arms but was woken but her hurried breath. A nightmare. I sat up a little, turning to kiss her on the forehead. "It's ok love. Shush now." I whispered and without opening her eyes to see me smiling at her, she calmed and we went back to sleep. The sound of the steady traffic echoing from beyond the fogged windows.
