Y/n's POV

The mood of the journey home was quite miserable. We had no idea where Thor had gone and to be honest everyone was feeling either sad or angry. Nebula looked extremely miserable as she flew us home, Rocket sat beside her trying to comfort her. I sat beside Rhodey on the way home but he didn't say anything. When we landed everyone strutted down the ramp. Rhodey headed through the agent doors, presumably off to the offices to tell people what happened. The rest of us wandered up towards the living area. Nebula and Rocket immediately disappeared off to the room they were sharing and locked the door. Pepper came out from the medical room at the sound of our footsteps. "He's waking up, I don't know what you want to do with him?" She asked shyly. Steve and Nat exchanged nervous glances.

"Let him rest. And if he wants food just call me and I'll cook him up some eggs. Er, Steve I would say maybe give him some space until he's over it." I smiled awkwardly at Cap.

"Yes Ma'am." He nodded his head and disappeared to his room to take his suit off. Pepper looked at our deflated expressions and dull attitude.

"I'm guessing that mission didn't go too well." She sighed.

"No. He destroyed the stones and then before we could get any more answers Thor chopped off his head." Nat rolled her eyes, recalling the events in space.

"Oh... I see." Pepper looked at me. I slumped on the sofa, shrugging my shoulders. Carefully I tried to pull off my boots but they were proving quite stiff. I tried using my powers to pull them off subtly as Nat turned to watch me struggle. "Need a hand Darling?" She smirked. I gave her a look, signalling not to mess around. She came over, taking a tight hold of my left boot and began pulling. However it didn't move.

"Do they have zips?" Pepper asked, looking around Nat at my struggling expression.

"No!" I huffed back, gripping onto the edge of the seat in an attempt not to fall off. Nat lifted a leg to put it on the seat, using her leg to push her back as she pulled. At last the boot flew off making Natasha land in a laughing heap on the floor. She helped me out of the other one before heaving herself off the ground. Nat, Bruce and I decided to follow Pepper and go to see Tony as he woke up. Pepper let us into the room and Tony opened his eyes. He saw me first and smiled weakly.

"Hey kid." He chuckled lightly.

"Hello Stark." I smiled.

"Bet you thought you had finally gotten rid of me didn't you." He began to sit up with the help of Pepper.

"Can't get rid of you that easily can we?" Nat smiled at her friend. Bruce went to check on Tony's vitals and change the bag on his drip.

"Do you want some food?" I asked Stark and he nodded.

"So, when are you guys going to find Thanos?" He began as I left the room. I looked at the floor with an awkward smile as I walked away, not only had we found the titan but we had killed him with no way of retrieving the supposedly destroyed stones. All hope of bringing our friends back was fizzing away quickly. I entered the kitchen and made a start on making scrambled eggs and toast for Tony. "Friday?" I asked the AI system.

"Yes Mis L/n. What can I do for you?"

"Please play my cooking playlist." I ordered and the upbeat sounds of my playlist began to echo softly through the speakers. "Thank you." I said as I got the eggs out of the fridge. To take my mind of the dire situation I danced away the sorrow as I whisked the eggs and milk. Eventually, after at least three sing-alongs and an impressive cover of "all the single ladies", I had finished the food. I carried the food back into the room, mid way through Natasha explaining the events to Tony. I placed the meal on the table Tony had pulled over his lap. He watched as Nat continued to explain. She was sat in the chair in the corner so I went and sat on her lap, snuggling into her shoulder for a comforting cuddle. We were both still wearing our suits but it was comfortable enough.

It wasn't long before we said goodbye to Tony and the others and retired to our room to shower and get some sleep. We hopped in the shower quickly before slipping into bed. Much to my surprise Natasha snuggled into me, laying her head on my chest as I wrapped my arms and legs around her. "It will all work out in the end." I whispered.

"I sure hope so." She replied.

"At least we still have each other. Even if everything else had fallen apart." I tried to look on the brightside. She hummed in response, adjusting the position of her head to make her comfier.

It got to about 12pm and we had both been pretending to sleep, assuming the other had dozed off but neither of us had. I got bored of running through the scenes of the past few weeks over and over again in my head. I held Nat in my arms and began to trace light circles on her arms with my fingers. I looked down to see her smile. Just the feeling on her soft skin was a distraction enough but it didn't take long for her to move. "This is boring, we should go do something." She looked up at me, her chin on my chest.

"But I'm exhausted." I yawned, my mind was busy but my body was frail.

"I could make you even more tired if you want?" She smirked.

"I would love to Darling, you know I would. But you're planning on me getting out of bed tomorrow aren't you?" I chuckled.

"Actually no. I thought we could have a lazy day in bed and catch up on some sleep." Nat smiled.

"Oh, wonderful." I hummed, resting my head back and closing my eyes. "I'm going to grab a glass of water, do you want one?" Nat asked and I lightly shook my head. She got up and left, leaving me feeling a little weird.

Nat's POV

I went off to the kitchen to grab my glass of water. My eyes felt heavy and my muscles were weaker. I ran the tap and sat myself up on the island whilst I drank my water. I couldn't help but let my eyes flutter shut. When I opened them again Steve was by the fridge, about to get himself a glass of milk. "Oh hey." I smiled.

"Hello." He replied. Shortly after I heard footsteps behind us. I looked around to see Bruce coming in with sleep in his eyes and his hair astray. He wandered past us, not acknowledging us watching him. He went in the direction of his lab but stopped at the sound of my voice. "Bruce? What are you doing?" I turned to look at him. He almost jumped and whipped around to see us.

"Oh erm... couldn't sleep. Decided to tinker, helps to um. Clear my mind." He said, coming over towards the kitchen. "I guess you guys can't sleep either?" He asked and we shook our heads. The boys lent on the counter and we all stayed there in silence for a few minutes. Then to our surprise Rhodey and Pepper came in, Rhodes from the corridor with our rooms and Pepper from the medbay. She was sleeping on the sofa just outside of the door. "Oh, are we having a meeting?" Rhodey yawned with a muffled tone of sarcasm.

"Nat?" Y/n came in slowly from the corridor. "Oh, did my invitation to the party get lost in the mail?" She tilted her head looking at our small gathering.

"Common thoughts I guess." Pepper yawned. "I'll put the kettle on if anyone wants a drink? I'm going to have a coffee." She offered. Most of us nodded and moved to sit around the table. Everyone stayed in silence as we embraced our thoughts. But just the feeling of everyone feeling the same thing made it easier. Steve helped Pepper make the drinks for us all and carried them over with a tray. "Thanks." I smiled up at the man, for the first time ever he had black circles around his eyes. A similar state was plastered on everyone else's face, eyes that no longer glittered with hope and the expressions that follow losing a close friend. It was hard, but we were doing it together.
