"I do have an announcement for everyone here before we begin with your normal day. It's not related to the midterms, though I do have something to say about midterms after this anyway, so please listen carefully."
The next morning, Class B sat in silence as Chabashira began their homeroom. Her expression was serious which meant the matter also needed to be taken seriously. Of course, Class B knew better than to no longer take things seriously even if they weren't, which was huge growth that made their homeroom teacher proud.
"After the midterms next week, we will be holding elections for the new Student Council President."
The shock from the classroom was unprecedented. In usual cases, a normal reaction such as nods and excitement or disinterest would be shown during a time like this. Student council president elections were, of course, normal at high schools and Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School was no different.
However, the situation was different here for one reason and one reason alone.
It was a very known fact across the school that when Nagumo was elected as the SCP, he had changed the runnership of his presidency to run all the way until he and the rest of the third years would graduate. This completely changed the way the student council was run in the school and meant that Nagumo's reign would last for longer than anticipated.
This change obviously wouldn't have sat well with Chairman Sakayanagi, and in fact it didn't. But, around the time the change was implemented, he was replaced by Acting Director Tsukishiro whose main goal was to mess with the school and get Kiyotaka expelled. It was much easier to implement that change when the chairman was not around.
But now that the chairman had returned, and the fact he was working with the school board to minimally assist Kiyotaka as a means of gratitude, that rule could no longer be applied and the original presidency had returned. Kiyotaka inwardly sighed in relief that the change came about.
"I know what you're all thinking. Who will be the candidates? Well, the elections start at the end of next week when the midterms end and the voting period the week after, so you'll have time to think about your vote while preparing for midterms. As for the candidates themselves, there are only two candidates who are running for the elections, one of which is of course the current president's successor."
It was easy to deduce that Chabashira was talking about Ichinose Honami, a girl who was a part of the student council and Nagumo had his eyes on for a long time. While Horikita was another option considering her brother was previously the original student council president before Nagumo, everyone understood Horikita didn't want to take the president role and Nagumo probably didn't either.
But who was the other candidate then? Everyone was wondering what the answer to this question would be. Seeing the curiosity on their faces, Chabashira continued.
