The next day, as Chabashira mentioned, the results of the midterms were posted for everyone to see at the end of final homeroom. Thanks to the extensive studying Class B had undergone, they had all passed every subject.
What was even better was the results were beyond their normal target expectations, with everyone actually receiving above 65% in each subject. This included the usual unacademic students such as Ike, Shinohara and others.
The biggest surprise was Sudou who, while looking bashfully just one day prior, scored the 11th highest results in the midterms. When compared to his grades just one year ago, it was a huge step up. He wasn't in the top ten or anything, but the growth he made in just one year and the results he got was sure to make him a contender. Nonetheless, this made Kiyotaka and the rest of the assigned tutors proud that they were able to achieve good results.
However, while Kiyotaka was proud with the midterm results, they were not as important as what was to happen next. While today was the day of the midterm results, today was also the day of the student council election debate.
After bidding farewell to his classmates, Kiyotaka made his way towards the great hall. As he arrived at the back entrance, he found Ichinose standing there looking a little nervous. The two greeted each other momentarily before silently standing, waiting for the event to begin.
There was only a few minutes left until the debate would begin. Students had already flocked into the main hall to sit down and prepare themselves. Kiyotaka and Ichinose continued to wait by the back entrance, waiting for the signal to enter. Only in those last minutes did Ichinose actually try to converse with her opponent.
"Ayanokouji-kun. I didn't think I would go against you in these elections. Even though I admire you quite a bit, I do also have to gain this position for my own sake. So I can't lose to you." Ichinose said carefully, still acting a little nervous.
"Now that's a different Ichinose than I and probably many others are used to. But a much needed welcome. I see you've finally found a goal you are aiming for."
Ichinose looked surprised for a moment, but smiled nonetheless.
"My class has fallen all the way down to the bottom. So there are things I have to do to raise us back up again. Plus, this is for my own development too. I need to do this."
"I see. Well then, I also have my own reasons for this too, so I unfortunately can't lose to you either. Even if I want to support you in this journey, I also have to do this for myself as well."
"Hehehe... That's true." She laughed before continuing. "I've heard about these debate events before. The whole point of them is to argue with your opponent to showcase to the public that you're the better choice for their votes."
