Sam Wesson walked into my office, much like he did a week ago. This time, I was in a better mood and my office wasn't a wreck. "Hey, what's up?" I asked with a smile. I can't seem to stop smiling anytime he's around lately.
"I was just checking up on you" he said.
I nodded, "Thanks for caring so much. You seem to be the only one in this building who gives a shit about me." My eyes drifted back down to my desk. My happy mood suddenly came crashing down. In my peripheral vision, I saw Sam sit in the chair across the desk from me.
"You don't look okay", Sam observed, leaning in toward me slightly.
I sighed, "It's just, I have many people working beneath me, and they all know about my divorce by now, yet you seem to be the only one who cares enough to make sure I'm okay."
"Well, wouldn't you rather have one good friend, rather than many bad friends?"
I thought for second before agreeing, "True, but still, it would be nice."
"It would, but most people are dicks." he joked.
I laughed, "You're right about that one."
He looked at his watch, "I gotta get back to work, see you later?"
I nodded, "Sure."
He got up and walked to the door before turning back around and saying, "Um, would you want to get a drink after work?"
A smile formed on my face, "Yeah, I'd like that."
He smiled back, "Great. I'll pick you up at 6", then walked out of my office. The smile was still plastered to my face as I got back to work.
After what felt like an eternity, it was time for me to clock out. I put my stuff away and headed home. Once I arrived, I quickly showered and put on some more casual clothes: jeans, a plain t-shirt under a plaid flannel. A few minutes later, Sam rang my doorbell. "Ready for that drink?" I asked him after opening the door.
"Definitely" he replied. Sam took me to a small bar for our drink. We sat at a table and ordered some beers. The next two hours were spent eating, talking, laughing, and complaining to each other. Sam looked at his watch. "It's getting a little late." My eyes widened as I saw it was already eight o' clock. Have we really been talking that long?
"Wow, where did the time go?" I asked.
Sam flashed his gorgeous teeth, "I don't know, but we should leave." I agreed with him. He called for the check and paid for our meal and drinks.
"You didn't have to pay for me" I told him.
"Nah, it's fine" he replied. We both stood and walked back to his car. When we arrived at my house, he got our first and quickly ran around to open my door before I could. He walked me up to my front door.
"I really enjoyed tonight. Thank you"
He nodded, "We should do this again"
"We should"
"Does next Thursday work for you?"
I smiled, "Sounds great"
"Good" he quickly pecked my cheek. I felt my cheeks heat under his lips. "I'll see you tomorrow" he said before walking backwards back to his car. I was speechless, so I raised my hand in a wave before going inside my house. I leaned back against the closed door. My hand touched where he kissed me. It felt as if my cheek was tingling. I think I'll falling for Sam, falling hard and fast, but in the best possible way. Finally, I felt completely happy again.
