Connor's POV
I reached level 101. I peeked inside, trying to be safe. I saw (Y/n) was struggling to get out of the machine. She looked pale and I knew something was wrong. Nobody else was around. I hurried over to her. She gasped.
"C-Con-*cough, cough, cough*" She cut off, coughing hard, her body convulsing with each one. It pained me to see her like this.
"Hang on okay? Save your strength, I'll get you out." I said. She kept coughing but trying to talk to me.
"N-no! *cough, cough* C-Connor w-wait! I-it's a-*cough cough cough cough*" I didn't listen, looking over the machine. I was able to hack into it. It let her go and she fell to the floor with a thud. She kept coughing, looking like she was in pain. I was about to grab her, but she sloppily tried to push herself away from me.
"(Y/n), it's okay. I'm gonna get you out of here so we can help you." I said.
"N-no...s-stay back..." She said, her voice sounding hoarse. I was concerned and confused.
"(Y/n), it's okay. Come on, let me help you." I told her, getting closer. She looked scared.
"C-Connor, no! D-don't t-touch-*cough cough cough cough cough*" She broke down into a coughing fit. I saw her cough up some blood, but it was black. Not thinking it through, I hurried to help her. I grabbed her hand and I felt a powerful pain in my hand. I instantly yanked it back with a yelp. I looked at it. My skin had disappeared and my hand glowed a deep blackish purple. I was shocked. W-what is this?
"(Y-Y/n)..." I asked confused. She looked at me.
"C-Connor...I t-tried to tell you. I-it's a-*cough, cough, cough*" I wanted to reach out for her, but I was fearful of what it'd do. "Con...it's a virus..." She hacked, looking defeated. I was shocked. I realized what I had done. "C-Connor...s-she wanted this..." She told me. I knew I had to do something about it, but I had no idea what. (Y/n) collapsed coughing weakly. I picked her up, not caring if I was going to get hurt again. Nothing happened luckily.
"(Y/n), don't worry. I'm gonna get you out of here so we can cure it. It's gonna be alright." I told her. She looked at me through half-lidded eyes.
"Con..." She breathed. I grew even more worried about her state. I carried her to the fire escape stairs and began to hurry her down to the others. I couldn't use the grappling hook again while I was carrying her. I heard a door bust open above us. I saw soldiers. They spotted us.
"There!" I ran as fast as I could and I escaped onto level 71. I looked around. Nobody was there. I heard the soldiers coming though. I ran into a room and I closed the door quickly. There were no windows, so hopefully, they would walk right past. I set her down on the chair gently and I listened.
They checked the entire floor, but they didn't check the room we were in. I was relieved as they all left. I went to open the door, but it wouldn't budge.
Oreon's POV
*Earlier*
Connor disappeared from sight and we guarded the stairway together. We have to keep moving so we didn't get shot, but we stopped any soldier from entering through that door. The wolves had split up and on Bandit's command they all took down soldiers at the same time, causing a bunch of lines of fire to go down on their side all at once. It was doing wonders for us at the moment.
"AAHH!" I heard a scream. I turned. Hank had gotten hit in the shoulder.
"Hank!" I exclaimed. I hurried over, quickly looking over the wound. "It's not bad, but come with me! I can dress it!" I said. He nodded and I helped him to cover. I ripped off my sleeve and I tore a hole in the sleeve of Hank's shirt so I could get better access to the wound. "I'll replace the shirt if you like." I said.
"It's alright. My fault for gettin' shot. Should'a seen that bastard comin'." He said.I carefully pulled the skin apart so I could find the bullet. "Ah! Hey!" Hank said.
"It's not gonna be painless." I told him. He sighed, annoyed, but accepting. I spotted the bullet. I needed something to take it out. I looked around for anything I could use. I saw a small pair of scissors. I covered the tips with cloth and then I used them as tweezers. I was able to remove the bullet. I dressed his wound, putting a tight gauze around his upper arm, but not too tight.
"Thanks, Oreon." He said.
"Of course." I replied. Suddenly he whipped out his gun and fired behind me. I looked back to see a soldier that was sneaking up on us fall to the ground. I turned back to him.
"T-thanks, Hank." I said.
"Don't mention it. Now we're even." He chuckled. We both split up and Hank took a more safe position after that. I kept fighting, but I also treated androids that had gotten injured, helping them get back in the game. We were having fewer casualties amazingly.
I heard another scream. I turned. I froze in terror.
"RALPH!!" I yelled. He was on the ground and I soldier took aim at him. I shot the man and he collapsed. I ran over to my friend. "Ralph!?" I asked. He sat up.
"R-Ralph is okay!" He said, looking relieved I was there. I smiled.
"You gotta be more careful, buddy." I said. He nodded.
"Ralph knows. Sorry." He said.
"Come on. Stick with me, pal." I said. He nodded. We both stayed together for the rest of the fight. Ralph helped me with my repair and care work as we fought to. He covered me as I helped them. Never thought I'd start off my doctor career like this.
Collin's POV
I had made it to level 77. I looked around, trying to track her. My scanners were malfunctioning though. I knew that was the most likely reason she had come to this floor. I cautiously looked around. Suddenly, I was shot it the back of my shoulder. I whipped around and fired three times. I saw her duck behind a desk. I glared in that direction.
"Stand down, Alisandra. You've lost. Our forces are easily overpowering yours." I said.
"This isn't over until every last deviant it killed by my virus!" She said.
"Virus? It was a virus this whole time?" I asked.
"Yes! (Y/n) has already infected poor Connor and once it takes control of him, ALL OF YOU WILL BE NEXT!" She shouted, an insane grin on her face. Her eyes were wide with terrifying pleasure and I saw a few rips in her clothes, probably from her desperation to hide and get away from everything. She aimed at me and fired again at my head. I dodged it and returned fire. She hid behind the desk again. I tried to get closer, but she pressed a button on the desk. I looked around as alarms sounded. Guns pointed at me from the ceiling and I could hear her chuckling from her safe spot. I ran as fast as I could, avoiding the shots fired rapidly at me. I jumped behind a wall, hiding from the rapid fire. I checked my gun. I only had so many shots left. I needed to do this efficiently, or I'd lose. I can't screw this up. Everything comes up to this. I can't help Connor or (Y/n) anymore, but I can end her insanity! I thought. I jumped out of cover. I will not fail my mission.
