The next day, you and Connor went into work and smiles were on both of your faces. Hank, Chris, and Gavin knew something was up. You both walked over and Gavin instantly said,
"What's up with the creepy ass smiles on ou two?" You rolled your eyes at him.
"Not much, Gavin. Just the fact that we're engaged. Ya know, everyday stuff." You retorted with a grin. They all looked surprised.
"You shitting me!?" Hank said, beginning to smile.
"No, Lieutenant." Connor said with a happy smile. You showed them the ring and Chris gave you a hug.
"Congratulations you two!"
"I guess I can say I'm impressed robocop over here actually had the nerve to do it." Gavin said, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Thank you, Detective." Connor said.
"Yeah, yeah, don't get used to it." Gavin said.
"Of course." Connor chuckled.
"I'm glad things are taking a turn for the better now." Hank said. "I'm proud of you two. You've both come a long way."
"Thanks, Hank." You said with a smile.
"Do you have any idea what you want to do yet?" Chris asked.
"Not really, but we have time to think." You replied.
"My question is when the hell did you have the time to pick up a ring like that, Connor?" Hank asked.
"I had actually looked into a wedding ring 3 times prior to actually getting one. I...had been thinking about asking, but...a lot had come up." He said. You all understood why Connor thought it would be better to wait. You would've said yes anyway, but now was a better time to do it, you had to agree.
"How much was it?" Gavin asked. Chirs elbowed him. "Ow!"
"It was actually on sale. Nobody was getting the brand so I got it for less than what some would expect. I was honestly just looking for something I knew she'd like. I didn't really care too much about the price, as long as I could afford it, that is."
"Well, I'm glad you both are finally official. It's nice to have something positive to enjoy." Chris said. You smiled.
"Thanks, Chris." You said. You were glad that your friends were happy for you both. It felt nice to smile with everyone again. Soon enough, everyone at the station knew. Jeffery was happy for you two just as everybody else was. You were honestly surprised everyone was so accepting of it. Nobody was judging it. Things really have changed for the better. You thought. You were glad that everything was getting better. You thought about the fact that you were truly getting married. Now that you had most of your memories, you remembered how you never thought you were actually going to get married.
Raymond was never really appreciative of you and he had been just a friend until your parents died and he had offered to take you in. Things had only gone further because you knew Raymond could be unpredictable. He wasn't really a bad boyfriend, but he didn't treat you as well as he could've. He wasn't who you were looking for. Raymond had been almost like a desperate grab to fill the new hole you'd had in your heart, but it'd been wrong to trust him with that. You had saved him on the road because you did care about him. When you came back, memories gone, he had been so different. The real him was completely gone. Now that you remembered it all, you wondered if that was one of the main reasons you had been planning on breaking up with him.
You pushed it aside. There was no reason to look back on it now. You were far past that. Everything Was finally going right. You'd began to come to terms with the pain you knew you were going to feel in the future. Everyone feels pain. I'm no different. You reminded yourself. You glanced over at your fiance. You smiled, your heart glowing at the thought of standing in front of him at a church or some other place. It only made you more sure about what you were doing. I might feel pain, but at least I'll never be alone.
