A Different Way To Finding Each Other

Stef And Mike

Stephanie Cooper had always been friends with Mike Foster since they were both in the same Kindergarten class. They grew up together and Mike's dad and Stef's dad were cops on the beat together and more than that they were partners.  They were best friends too and went through elementary, middle and high school together. If that wasn't enough, they went through the police academy together as well. 

They were each other's Best Man at their weddings and they were Godparents to each other's kids. Stef was always at Mike's and vice versa. The two were inseparable and everyone assumed they would get married one day that brought joy to their dads. 

Life was great for Stef and Mike, but fifth grade changed that when Tess Martin came to their school and stirred trouble for the once thick as thieves best friends. Soon it was less Stef and Mike and more Stef and Tess.

Stef never knew she liked girls until Tess showed up and she stopped playing with Mike all together that hurt him deeply. They rarely spoke or said hi to each other anymore and if they passed each other in the hallway it was a fast hi and they parted ways.

Mike got hurt more when Stef switched lockers and now had a locker near Tess. Mike got hurt and mad as he bit his lip and clenched his fist and went the other way.

It was awkward for Frank Cooper and Mike Foster Sr. since they are best friends and are Godfather's to their respective kids. They didn't know it was that bad between Stef and Mike and it would only get worse. For the entire year, Stef and Mike were like oil and water and didn't mix at all. It didn't help that Mike's buddies were saying Stef like Tess more than him and Mike would get angry and mad.

Tess Martin, didn't know she caused so much trouble for Stef and Mike. She only knew she had a best friend in a new school after her parents moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Mission Bay in San Diego California. She missed her old friends and family back home and any new friend was good for her.

The boys made fun of Mike and he finally snapped and had enough and hit, a boy named Spencer Boyd and soon all the boys were fighting with each other. Stef saw Mike and she knew he was going to get in trouble big time. Stef joined in the fight too.

In the hallway, Stef and Mike each had ice packs on their faces and ignored each other and didn't speak. Frank came for Stef and put his finger to his lips and she sighed and nodded. Mike Sr. came for Mike and the boy knew his life was over.

The two kids were suspended for the rest of the week as well as the other boys for the fighting and Frank spanked Stef and Mike Sr. spanked Mike and both kids ignored each other more and more. The rest of the year, Stef and Mike hung out with new friends and they missed each other terribly. Tess Martin made new friends, but still hung with Stef.

"Want to come over to my house, Tess?" Stef asked.

"Sure," Tess replied. After school, the two girls did their sixth grade homework and finished and after they were done they watched TV in the garage as they were hugging as Frank's eyes popped out.  He sent Tess home and took a belt to Stef as she cried and Sharon stopped him and told him to leave and calm down. He left as the door was heard with a loud bang.

Stef and Tess stopped seeing each other and made other friends and Stef was alone. Mike was gone and so was Tess. After the first week of of the new school year, Stef and Mike bumped into each other and it was awkward as they side stepped to pass the other and they just got tangled and Stef hit the floor and Mike landed on top of her and just stared at her with love and kissed her hard and she kissed back, even if she hated it. 

"Why did you leave me?" Mike asked.

"I don't know," Stef replied. "Me and Tess aren't friends anymore. My dad doesn't like her."
