Callie was on her way to class in the morning after her mama brought her and her brothers to school one day in April and a week before Easter. A girl came up to see Callie and she's in the advanced third grade and not in the same class with the big twins and AJ. But she likes Brandon, but he likes Matt Tan and Matt Tan likes him.

Tabor Miller eyed Callie. "Hi Callie. Where is your fake family?"

"Fake family? We aren't a fake family," Callie defended. "We are a family. All families are real."

"You are five and dumb," she said. "Same sex couples aren't considered real families. A law needs to be passed first and it hasn't yet," Tabor replied.

"You are lying. My family is real. All families are real," Callie yelled as she started to cry.

All the other third graders glared at Tabor. "You feel bigger because you hurt a five year old?" Sam Newman replied. His friend Ben Newton came over as Callie ran into the restroom and locked herself in.

Callie came out after ten minutes and wiped her tears. "All families are real and equal."

"My mama and mommy got married. I was there," Callie said. "And I was there flower girl."

"The law needs to past first retard," Tabor replied.

"Stop calling me names," Callie said. "You are wrong."

"Want to make a bet?" Tabor asked. "Your family is fake. My family is real."

"A real family is with a mom and dad. Not a mama and mommy," Tabor said as she laughed.

"Be quiet," Callie replied. "You don't know nothing."

"You are Callie Elizabeth Adams. Not Callie Elizabeth Adams Foster."

"I am Callie Elizabeth Adams Foster. My mommy adopted me and your daddy was the Judge. Are you saying your daddy didn't do his job right?" Callie asked.

All the other fourth graders laughed. Tabor got mad and eyed Callie in a mean way. "You suck."

"No thank you. You aren't my type," Callie replied.

"Two moms don't make a family," Tabor replied. "You don't even have a daddy."

"I do too. Mama and daddy got divorced. Caleb, Callum and I see him all the time and every other weekend."

"Who is your daddy?" Tabor asked.

"Robert Quinn Jr.," Callie replied as Tabor laughed.

"And I'm the Queen of England," Tabor snapped. "Robert Quinn Jr. with Lena Adams?"

"They grew up together and their parents who are my grandparents grew up together."

"You are a liar," Tabor replied. "You were adopted by Lena Adams."

"We weren't. Here is the pictures," Callie replied. "My mama is half white by the way."

"Fine she's your mama. But Robert Quinn Jr. is not your daddy. He can't be."

"Well he is and he is picking us up today. It is his weekend," Callie replied. "And my family is real."

"Whatever. The law needs to pass first," Tabor replied. "You will never be a real family."

The rest of the day, Callie bit her lip as Jack came over. "What's wrong?" Jack asked.

"Tabor Miller. She says our family is fake and not a real one," Callie replied.

"She's mean and a liar," Jack replied. "Just ignore her."

Callie nodded as Jack went back to class and she went to recess and lunch.
