Samuel Mitchell was going through his dad's things and stumbled on an unopened letter for him and the curiosity got to him and as he opened it and realized it was Robert and Lena's annulled marriage that was never opened. "Why not open it dad? " Samuel asked himself and decided to call his dad in Los Angeles.
"Dad? Why didn't you open the annulled marriage of Robert and Lena?" Samuel asked.
Sawyer Mitchell sighed and spoke into the phone. "It would have been to sad to see and I loved Robert and Lena together. Why do you ask?"
"I opened it and the signature is not Robert Leonard Quinn Sr. Signature. It is someone else's."
"What? I need to see it since I know Robert's signature. Where are you at?"
"My office," Samuel replied. "Let's have lunch at Benson's?"
"Sure and see you in a heartbeat," Sawyer replied as he ended the call and cancelled any clients he had that day and told his receptionist to apologize on his behalf as he ran out the office and everyone figured something happened to Samuel.
On the road, Sawyer realized if it wasn't his best friend's signature, Robert and Lena were still married legally and he was happy for that, but they might have moved on and that would be a shame he thought as he raced to Mission Bay and parked at his son's job and walked over to Benson's Bistro that was ten minutes away and walked in the Bistro and smelled the familiar foods.
Hi walked in and spied his son and grinned. "Hi Sam."
"Dad hey you made it. Where's the car?"
"Your job. I felt like walking," the older Mitchell replied.
A waitress came over and took their order as the son and dad talked. Samuel brought out the paperwork as Sawyer took it and right away he knew it wasn't his best friends signature and he smiled in a sad way.
"Well?" his son asked.
"It's a fake," Sawyer replied. "A damned fake."
"So what does this mean?" Samuel asked.
"It means, the marriage never got annulled and they are still married."
"Still married?" Samuel asked.
"Yup. Why?" Sawyer asked.
"Lena got married a few months back," Samuel added. "She married a wife who adopted the kids."
"Kids? What kids?" Sawyer asked.
"When Robert left, Lena found out she was pregnant. She gave birth to triplets. Two boys and a girl and they are Caleb Leonard, Callum Robert and Callie Elizabeth Adams Foster."
"And the wife adopted him, but Robert didn't sign his rights away?"
"Nope I remembered a rich man who did that and Robert did it too."
"Good. I trained you well my son," Sawyer replied. "Do you have a picture of the triplets?"
"Yup. Here," Samuel added as he gave them a picture of the triplets as Sawyer realized they were white as clouds. "Poor kids."
"Why?" Samuel asked.
"Lena was teased and made fun of all the time for not looking like her dad, Stuart Adams."
"Oh," Samuel replied. "These three are tough."
"But to be fair, Lena is half white," Sawyer replied.
"What do we do?" Samuel asked.
"We tell Robert and Lena of the news that they are still married."
"This might not go well," Samuel replied. "Lena married her wife."
