Ronald Leyton Quinn was a crafty kid since he was first admitted into the Maryland Children's Home For the Insane when he was five years of age and never grew out of being crafty as a child. All through his childhood in the home, if you described it as a childhood, he was more craftier and crazy as he grew up. He was hiding out in his older twin brother's office in the basement as his mind returned to his time in the home. He smiled and knew he would never be found as he remembered the first time he woke up in the home.
On the first day there, he cried out for his mama, his daddy and Robert his older brother and twin who was older by thirty minutes. He opened his eyes and let them refocus on the room he was in as he got scared and worried.
He wasn't in Kansas anymore, which was a metaphor for not being at home in Mission Bay in his room at home. He wondered what happened and where were his parents and big brother were at and when they would come and get him and take him home. He didn't mean to be bad and whatever he did he would get better, like the last time.
"You are a awake. Good," Doctor Parker Chance who eyed him in a small smile.
"Who are you?" Ronald asked bewildered and scared. "Where are mama, daddy and Robert?"
"I'm Doctor Parker Chance. You are in your new home in Maryland to help boys get better."
"A new home to get better? What did I do?" he asked.
"Nothing. Your parents and brother are no longer in your life and you need to move on."
"I guess," Ronald added. "What is this place called?"
"Maryland Children's Home for Boys to get better," he sort of lied. He left out the Insane part of the place so as not to scare him. "Tell me your full name."
"Ronald Leyton Quinn."
"Well I'm Parker James Chance. And I'm your new Doctor."
Ronald nodded and was given a tour of the place and all the boys came to see the new kid who was the youngest in the group. "Doctor Chance why am I here?"
"You tried to kill someone else. It was another boy your own age."
"Is he okay?" Ronald asked.
"He is after his parents came to his rescue."
"Did mama and daddy send me away?"
"They did. They were afraid you would hurt yourself, other kids or even Robert."
"Oh. But I miss them and want to go home," Ronald replied. "I miss my twin brother. I miss Robbie. I could never hurt Robbie."
"He misses you too," Doctor Chance replied. "We need to take some tests."
"So he's not insane?" Doctor Harper Chance asked his older brother Parker.
"So what is wrong with him and why did he try to kill his twin brother, Robert Quinn?" Carter Chance asked.
"Yeah what's up?" Parker Chance asked as they eyed their youngest brother.
"He was born thirty minutes after his older twin. He is not insane. He just lost too much oxygen and when that happens you stay messed up."
"So do we tell his parents that?" Parker asked.
"He is still messed up. He is handicapped and can kill his brother for sure this time."
"I guess," Parker replied. "We will tell the parents."
A week later, Ruthie and Roland Quinn came to see all four Doctor Chances as they shook hands.
"So he's not insane?" Roland asked.
"So what's wrong with him?" Raquel asked.
"He was born thirty minutes after his older twin was born and lost too much oxygen," Parker replied.
