Kagami was watching Aomine from behind the counter as Aomine sat at a table, pouring over a textbook and petting Tiger who was happily snuggled in Aomine's lap. Kagami let out a sigh as he leaned against the counter, resting his cheek in his hand.

"So?" Makoto walked over to Kagami and stood next to him. "What happened?" The line was empty, the remaining customers in the cafe at tables or with the cats.

"Well, when I was at your place, Aomine tried to call me. A lot." He remembered how the voicemails got more and more distraught. "I ended up going to see him in the morning and it was fine, he was still pretty asleep, so we just cuddled, but then he wanted proof that I wasn't cheating and all I could think of was sex. And that was fine. And I finally told him about my past and he was so shocked. I don't think he expected that and he changed after that. I think he maybe he realized how he'd been rough."

"Kagami... There's more than you've told me, isn't there?" Makoto asked quietly.

"I don't usually tell anyone." Kagami let out a breath and leaned his head against the counter. "I've gone through a lot of abuse back home in LA and with Alex coming here to see me... my past was catching up with me."

"Kagami..." Makoto's tone was surprised. "I had no idea..."

"I don't tell people, so don't feel bad." He smiled a bit. "But also don't tell anyone else."

"Of course not." Makoto nodded, completely serious.

Kagami stood up straight and smiled at Makoto. "Thanks. I just hope things get better. In the past it always felt like a dream, but now... maybe it's possible."

Makoto was about to respond when he noticed a customer walking up. They both stood up straight when Aomine was walking over to them by the counter. Kagami cleared his throat. "I can I get you something?"

"Is Tiger up for adoption?"

Kagami blushed at the suggestion. He knew he and the cat had a lot of similarities and the idea that Aomine wanted to adopt Tiger made his insides melt. Kagami seemed unable to move, so Makoto nodded and got some papers from under the counter. "He is! If you're interested, these are the papers to fill out."

"Thanks." Aomine took the papers and smirked at Kagami a bit before walking away.

"Is he actually going to adopt your spirit animal?" Makoto teased.

"I might faint if he actually does." Kagami turned redder and brought his hands to cover his face.

[AN: another update!! What do you think of this little interaction? To be honest, I realized how little time has passed during this last portion and I feel like Aomine needs to do more to make up for his behavior! Maybe Tiger will help~ ☺️]
