"Why do you always have to be so judgmental?", I ask him. "Would it kill you to be a little nicer?"
"No, of course not," he replies matter-of-factly. "But on the other hand, what has kindness ever won?"
I breathe in deeply for a moment, thinking about his question. Why do I even bother? I'm not even the kindest, most caring person around myself. So why do I care about his perspective on things?
In the end, I reply anyway. Like I knew from the start that I would.
"Kindness wins you hearts."
