He was certain there was a lesson to be learned in that moment, but he didn't quite care enough to figure out what it was. In the end, he settled for shrugging the thought off, and just walking away.

Walking away from a villain you couldn't beat, was not a very heroic thing to do, however. The terror kept reigning, and casualties kept falling, and eventually, the lesson started nagging in a corner of his mind.

When he couldn't take it anymore, he finally learned. And he prepared. So the next time he faced off with the villain, he walked away victorious, instead of with his tail between his legs.

Sometimes, even the most heroic of actions has a questionable motivation behind it.
