They both stared in shock at the cave floor in front of them. The artifact, the ancient object infused with powerful magic, which was supposed to save their entire world, lay in pieces at their feet.
In their squabble over who got to carry and wield the artifact, they had dropped it, and on impact with the stone floor it had shattered in hundreds of pieces.
The feeling sank deep into their stomachs. Their little argument had halted their efforts to save the realm entirely. Because of them, the world would be shattered in mere days, as well.
