The ancient academy for magics was not a joyful place to get your education. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Students were put through grueling lessons, and tested with dangerous, sometimes lethal challenges. And in a ritual that had persisted through the centuries, their faces and bodies were scarred with deadly magic, in an attempt to draw forth as much of their magical abilities as humanly possible.
It was a miracle so many students lived through the entire education. It was a miracle so many of them got to be powerful.
None of them ever thought lightly of magic again, however.
