You'd think separation would make the heart grow fonder, but she found it mostly brought her pain. Not knowing how the love of your life is doing and if he's even still alive, is a special kind of torture.
Alas, their love was forbidden, and so her reaching out to find him, would surely get both of them tried for treason, and possibly killed.
Still, walking those same hallways, she still expected him to stride around a corner any minute, the same forlorn look in his eyes that never seemed to leave him.
Now, she understood what it had meant.
