172. Power

She had never felt like this before, as the raw power continued to course through her veins. Whatever sort of ancient magic had been slumbering, nestled deep inside of her, it was awake now. And she was more alive than ever.

She had to test this new power somehow, but in an area this desolate, there was little she could do. Finally, she settled on a large boulder, and with a flick of her fingers, it exploded into a million pieces. Unexperienced as she was, she didn't yet know how to draw up a magical shield, and so a few of the stony splinters tore gashes into her skin. But as the little wounds started to heal rapidly, she just laughed, the hollow sound ringing in the open space.
