As the bird in front of us slowly morphs into a man, I can see the look of pure bewilderment on her face.
"I thought the last shapeshifter had died months ago," she whispers. "How is this even possible?"
The man stretched his body extensively before replying, as if he had spent a long period of time as a bird. "I had to lay low for a bit. And faking your own death is an excellent way to achieve that. Even if I do say so myself."
My eyes flick back and forth between them. My friend still hasn't picked her jaw up off the forest floor.
