35. Forgotten

There was something nice about being forgotten, he realized after a while, something liberating. It was almost funny, seeing how most people run their legs from underneath themselves trying not to be forgotten, even long after they're gone. Simply wasted energy, in his current opinion.

He had not always lived like this, mind you. Once, he had been a hero, revered all across the realm. But as it usually goes, heroes get replaced, and there is nobody left to care about what happened to the previous one.

And so he watched quietly from the shadows, amused by yet another hero trying to stay in the limelight for as long as he possibly can.
